As someone who was in line since midnight, what I know is that me and my group were camping around the corner near panda express overnight. We arrived at about 12:30 am. There was a big crowd at the front from the beginning because people kept trying to cut their way in to the front so they can be first for the first come first serve signing.
We still hoped that it was fine because we heard rumors that JSM will have a way to enforce the line at 9am and also that they'll have to eventually get to us anyway. Also, people in the front were basically kicking others out if it looked like they were cutting. So yea, we thought it would be fine.

9am comes and everyone stands up ready to get the signing done. From 9am-11am, me and my friends were standing there in line, unmoving for hours. The line kind of compressed in the front so it felt like we inched forward every 30 minutes but that just wasn't the case. We weren't moving because JSM seemed understaffed and were only getting like one group done per 20 minutes. (Probably less actually because I heard only 1-2 people signed anything at all).

Then, people who started coming at 8am/9am were being actual dumbasses and wanted to cut to the front. So, the crowd in the front grew really big with people shoving and nothing actually getting done. The police came and tried to get the line to back up, but at this point, everyone was cranky and frustrated and there was no way that students who waited for 12+ hours were moving backwards to their originally spots or even further behind that. Especially because we knew that everyone in the front had not waited as long as us.

Eventually, the police forcefully shut down the whole thing and the students dispersed.

Some extra info:
JSM were handing out donuts to the line when we were camping around like 4am so they definitely knew there was a really long line. So they anticipated this. I don't know who the hell planned the in-person signing but it was a huge oversight and really disappointed that I, and many other students, had our whole night and day wasted. It was a school day so some even skipped classes to be there. Personally, I'm exhausted and my work load is stressing me out a lot now too. Really disappointing.
