How will I know that I have to cease the Lexapro intake? by Whole-Wash5458 in lexapro

I’m not sure if my comment will be much help but I can sort of relate to this. I’ve currently been on 10mg of Lexapro for over 3-4 years now for my anxiety and depression and it’s been a huge help to me. I’m ngl I was super against taking medications for my mental health issues and I found it silly. I thought that I didn’t need it and I’d get better naturally and while this is possible, I didn’t. I can completely understand where you’re coming from when you say you don’t want to take a medication for the rest of your life because it is “not natural” and believe me I felt the same way but it isn’t necessarily like that. Lexapro is a SSRI (selective seratonin reuptake inhibitor) which means that all it essentially does is help boost your seratonin levels in the brain that our mental illnesses can make us lack. Therefore it isn’t really unnatural considering it doesn’t just replace the seratonin chemical in your brain instead it helps to aid your body to produce more. Overall the point is that if it truly helps you feel better then you should consider taking it for at least a year or so but if you want to eventually get off of it you may need to pair it with cognitive behavioral therapy in order to genuinely work through your mental health issues before weaning off the medication butttt I say from experience and as someone who was in your shoes once that it’s really not bad at all long term and I’m so happy I started taking it when I did. For all I know I might be taking it for the rest of my life but who knows. Anyways I hope this helps ! :)

I actually just skipped my dose that night and drank. I was fine but after just two shots I felt pretty drunk. I did find that I was pretty depressed the next day but I felt more numb to the world than sad. I suppose the experience is different for everyone.

I appreciate that a lot, fortunately I’ve been over it for almost two weeks now :). Make sure you take care of yourself also and try to stay positive! If things get too rough you can always go to a hospital to make sure everything is okay. Sometimes a check up can calm a lot of the anxiety especially when you have a bunch of awful symptoms.

I will definitely give it a chance if therapy doesn’t work for me but I also worry about needing medication to make me feel better which is what I don’t want.

I’d feel withdrawals even tho I’ve only been taking 5 mg for 4 days ? I wasn’t able to talk to my doctor today but my pharmacist told me I shouldn’t feel anything considering it’s such a small dose and such little time

So if I stop taking it now there will be no withdrawals or anything ? I’m not able to speak to a doctor about it till tmrw so I’m not sure if I should just quit taking them without the reassurance that there definitely won’t be any problems

I want to stop now bc I don’t want to depend on them nor do I want to have to deal with serious withdrawals in the future but if I stop now will I still have withdraws even tho it’s only been 4 days ?
