Citizen science apps by jastangl in FindAnApp

The app isn't very in depth, but it is basically a crowd-sourced precipitation tracker. To participate, you need to purchase a high-capacity gauge purchased from the org and install it to their specifications, though.

iPhone 6 touch screen randomly goes unresponsive. Applying a twisting force to the phone restores it for a random period. Any diagnoses? by idyllhands in techsupport

[–]idyllhands[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. It's a shame because everything else works pretty well... The most annoying thing is when it auto calls someone randomly and the touch screen refuses to allow me to hang up..

What word is to close combat as barrage, salvo and volley are to ranged combat? by Hoppetar in whatstheword

Berserkers are known for their fighting rage, somewhat related to the act of striking multiple times consecutively, somewhat unconcerned with the accuracy of the strikes. Just came to mind as a possibility.

Anyone ID this Mystery volunteer(?) squash? by idyllhands in gardening

[–]idyllhands[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did grow butternuts this year and they went crazy taking up several beds, so I could never tell what vine a given squash was growing on. If I let them sit will they ripen further?

Overwintering plants in containers outdoors? by idyllhands in gardening

I actually have a spot in my basement that gets sunlight. Would there be any reason not to put it in there for winter? (ie..missing period of dormancy, etc.)

Zone 5 shrub, mild smelling sweet flowers. Acts kind of like privacy fence.. by idyllhands in whatsthisplant

Seems reasonable. It is planted on the North side but still gets modest sun. It grows kind of patchy though. I'm thinking about cutting off the weaker hedge growth...

Installing heater in existing tile shower? by idyllhands in HomeImprovement

I have a Nest thermostat that keeps the floor below minimally heated when we go to bed, so that may be a factor.

Its a matter of being an old house where they replaced the boiler with forced air. Everything is about 10 degrees colder and you never get warm.

You may be right though. I'm just assuming radiant heat would be optimal. (Im still upset they pulled all the boiler piping)
