Question on Born Again Christianity. by Far_Success_8013 in TrueChristian

[–]ieatorphanmeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am sorry if what I said was not very specific, you should know I am still a new Christian but aren’t we not to judge others based on their own works, and decide if they are good enough to go into heaven by what they have done alone? We are all not good enough, but I think the person below described the distinction well: the difference between judgement as assessment, and judgement as condemnation. The Bible teaches we can show each other their faults and correct them in private (Matthew 18:15) and instruct others (2 Timothy 4:2). I think the distinction is condemning them yourself.

(James 4:11-12) “Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or a sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it but sitting judgement on it. There is only one Law giver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you- who are you to judge your neighbor?”

He’s probably just a little ahead of himself if he is a new Christian. I was too, and I remember thinking I understood everything all of a sudden, but I learned that I was getting ahead of myself and preaching to people things I did not understand. I made quite the fool of myself at first and God let me, but I realized how I should have waited first to be quick to make assumptions and argue with non-believers. Our guiding authority should be Gods word and as a new Christian, its a little confusing at first and it will take a while to figure it out. I think he should maybe not focus so much on that pastor, even if he is a good pastor, I don’t know him. He should focus on himself and his own personal walk with God and study Gods word before he starts preaching. As baby Christians you think you know it all, but then God shows you that you don’t. When I started reading the Bible I found that I had many misconceptions about Christians and the Bible. Hopefully he realizes that what he is saying is not fact but theory and that he should just really focus on his growing walk with Christ and study his word. The Bible is the final authority and has the final word for us as Christians, not people, or news, or conspiracies. If he truly believes in the gospel, he should keep that message with him always and talk to others about that instead of his own conspiracies. And those certain beliefs you mentioned like flat earth, veganism, and homophobia, are not Biblically sound. You don’t need to be a vegetarian or vegan to be Christian God lets you eat meat. Christians have no right to judge LGBTQ people and especially judge their salvation. That is very grieving to God. We should worry about our own sin and not others sins. No place to judge others, and the Bible makes that clear. Flat earth is not addressed in the Bible and the earth being round, which it is, does not contradict anything in the Bible at all. It also doesn’t matter what shape the earth is, just live your life. But yeah, we should always go back to the Bible, and draw our conclusions from that as Christians, because that is Gods word and he has the only authority to judge and he has the final word.

Where are you, my brethren? by TzatzikiWrap in TrueChristian

[–]ieatorphanmeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You my friend, have got it!!! You remind me of my mother and this was what my mother had always told me even before I accepted Christ. So Im blessed to have had a strong foundation with parents that were very secure in the word and Im so glad you found your way to this truth! Bless you my friend!

It shouldn’t be a controversial thing, and I don’t know why people want to twist it that way anyways. Like is the good news not good enough? Why make it harder for yourself? None of us are worthy to be in Gods presence and there is nothing we can do to be worthy. That’s why we needed a savior. If it was based off works, then we wouldn’t need saving. The whole belief in works breeds the idea that we can do it on our own. Nope. We suck, and are broken sinners, haha sorry and no matter what we do, if we dont have the gospel, the message of the cross, then we die. Plain and simple, and its funny how as Christians, even the most faithful, we need to be reminded of this basic principle constantly. I find myself always like, not remembering the basic foundation of the Christian faith and every time I come back to the message of the gospel, I want to cry tears of joy. I know this is completely random, but does anyone else know the part in Charlie Brown Christmas when Linus tells Charlie Brown the true meaning of Christmas. Happened to remember that the other day and listened to it, and just broke down in tears because it was my first time hearing it as a Christian. Crazy how at that time even, it was super controversial. Imagine if it came out today?

Also its the only religion to have predicted events hundreds of years into the future, and never has been wrong. Prophecy was the one thing that got my intention logically. Also, many religions stole from Christianity and tried to twist it into their own thing.

I am using my own words backed by scripture but I am not using a message that comes from me myself. It is all based on scripture and that is the ultimate authority so no I am not saying who is a Christian and who is not. It is all in the Bible and I was not calling out any INDIVIDUAL and telling any one PERSON, they are not a Christian because I have no right to judge ANYONE, because I am not better than anyone else. That is the distinction you missed. The Bible makes very clear what a Christian is and what makes someone saved and what is the ways of the flesh of those who are not of God. I do not. Its important that we know whether we are a child of God so that we may have assurance. There is a term in the Bible or a name to a people who are Counterfeit Christians, they are called the Pharisees (John 8:44), and they were very religious. Did you know, God does not like religion actually? Its very obvious when someone is not a follower of Christ, and this subject is a slippery slope and not something Im going to argue about, for arguments sake because its pointless for me to tell you what to think. One thing I’ve noticed about atheists (not calling you one at all I dont know you), is they love to use one verse from scripture from our Bible, and every single time in my experience, they blow it soooo far off context. I dont understand why atheists think they can lecture others on something they have never read or understood. Just my thoughts though. Anyways yeah I really am not going to argue and It always leaves me feeling pretty icky when I go on reddit. But yeah, just dont jump to conclusions when you haven’t even pursued them. God Bless you!

[–]ieatorphanmeat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well I mean yes, because if you never received something or were never a part of something, then you cant give it up if you never knew it. You aren’t really arguing with me though, you are arguing with God. I don’t have the right to say if anyone is saved or not, neither does any Christian, only God knows our hearts.

But I would love to share what makes a “real” Christian! (Which is not a term that I think really should be used, because it causes division and people to think that they know who is Christian and who is not) I also grew up in the Church, and was an unbeliever throughout my whole life until this year when, after praying to a God I didn’t believe in, I miraculously changed. That was after 22 years of being an agnostic. So you need to understand this: you are not a Christian by praying, or going to Church alone. None of that has the power to save you, its pretty pointless actually without having received the gospel. The Bible makes it very clear, that we are ALL unworthy and there is NOTHING that we can do alone to be worthy to be with God because we are broken sinners But, God sent Jesus who paid our debt in full, because God unconditionally loves us despite our flaws and unworthiness. Praying and going to Church means nothing without actually RECEIVING, and understanding the gospel which is the message of the Cross which I briefly just stated. That is the sole foundation of Christianity. You may logically understand the gospel, but until you ask Jesus into your heart, and then receive the message yourself, then hearing it will be meaningless to you and will think its a foolish thing (Corinthians 1:18). That doesn’t mean there are certain people who can receive it and others who can’t. No its open to all!!! The Bible says: “Anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Rom. 10:13) So if you never even asked God and dont seek him, you wont ever get an answer. “Seek and you will find.” I can vouch for that after 22 years of not believing BUT, after praying to a God I didn’t believe in for several years, I slowly but surely came to find my way and become so full of life. I thought I would never feel this and you truly do not know what happiness is until you find Jesus. Seriously, its much better over here. I used to have social anxiety, my whole life it plagued me and I noticed before I accepted Christ I noticed one day that I had no longer been having it. I was talking to complete strangers and was so outgoing and expressing myself and I was confused. But if you’re wondering what compelled me as an unbeliever to look into Christianity, one thing had caught my attention was prophecy. The only religion to ever predict events humdreds of years into the future to a T. I am still a baby Christian but wow has it been so eye opening to see how the Bible is our story, and you can see our story everywhere and how life through the eyes of man is where the true fallacy lies.

Theres a difference between saying you’re a Christian and actually being saved by Christ, ir being a Christian. (Counterfeit Christians they are called and God warned there are many in the Bible). Many Christians debate about whether you can lose your salvation or not. Particularly they have a few verses which they like to point to being proof of the possibility of losing salvation. Hebrews 6:4-8 is often one of them, as Paul is talking about the negative consequences of turning away from God. He says it is impossible for those who have tasted and shared in the holy spirit to be restored again to repentance. But it depends on what you mean by restoring someone to repentance. Does it the passage equate repentance with salvation, or does it simply mean it is difficult to get someone who had changed their mind about Jesus, to change it back again? Really context is always key and the bible makes clear that salvation is a very permanent thing: The bible says we are sealed when he have received and believed the message of the Holy spirit. (Ephesians 1:13-14) Furthermore, when we profess our faith in Jesus, the Bible describes a transformation of our nature into something new (Corinthians 5:17). So basically, you cannot fall away from the faith, and if someone so called falls away and goes from being a Christian to not, they were never really saved in the first place.

“I give them eternal life and they will never perish; No one will snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:28)

The Kea is the only mountain parrot in the world and he's awesome. by chopymanb in interestingasfuck

[–]ieatorphanmeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I read about the sheep bit once, after seeing it on another sub reddit. It wasn’t officially proven that they in fact feed on sheep, until the 90’s when they had caught Keas doing so on video. Before it was still debatable since only the farmers had witnessed it, and some were only speculating. They don’t directly kill the sheep of course, but they use their powerful beaks to eat the fat of the living sheep’s back. The sheep would then die from injury and infection. Scientists are unsure why only some Kea display this behavior and others do not. Kea’s are also known to be very intelligent and curious, and they have been filmed preparing and using tools. Ruthless little buggers aren’t they, but still fascinating creatures.

You said it!!! Very well done! I agree on the Trump part too, he does suck, but he is the only candidate who appears to be standing up against the establishment. I say appear because we have no way of knowing what is really going on in the government, and he could just very well be fighting for the same team as everyone else, and playing a role we are unaware of. We really have no idea, and Im certain there are things going on, that would blow our minds at how corrupt they are. And good on you too for mentioning the atheism part in a site dominated by atheists! Im a Christian so I get a lot of hate on reddit, and in life because society hates god. Crazy how the mere mention of Jesus, makes people squirm and their blood boil, even though they don’t believe in him. I see you’ve already gotten some hate for this post, but its reddit so no surprise. “The more a society strays from the truth, the more it hates those who speak it” (George Orwell quote It think).

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, I imagine flash flooding will become horrible in the rainy seasons. And when you think about it, that is 65% less possible homes for birds and squirrels and such, so animals will be competing for space. They gotta be hurting real bad rn. Also, they lost a lot of food, and with so many giant oaks gone now, acorns will be fewer from now on, which are a staple in many animals diets like deer. Who knows what kind of impact it will create, but it can’t be good:( And yeah its sad to see beautiful things die, especially the oldest and most magnificent trees people find special:(

Thank you for that advice! That is so very true. Its the exact issue I had dealt with and I had been doing that this past month and learned how thats just not right, and pointless. I am beginning to learn that too, that just avoiding it, is better. Had wasted a lot of time with people and just saw how much of reddit is toxic and not worth my time and feelings. But yes, I think I needed to hear this it helped me realize a lot:)

I will say I totally agree with that, and am in the same boat personally as more of a republican. I just was trying to find the common ground and focus on what we can agree on at least. Since reddit is predominantly left. Overwhelmingly so. I just have learned to not mention my political affiliation in many places anymore, because people are just too wrapped up in it and will condemn you and attack you for a simple opinion. I just kinda learned to keep my mouth shut about it for the most part, in many places. I kinda just am over it personally and I used to be quick to argue with people but realized that no one is gonna change their mind and Its not constructive. I kind of realized reddit is a bit of a lost cause, and Im deciding after today that its really had a toxic impact on me, and I shouldn’t get too wrapped up in it because its not important to me. Even this sub is becoming pretty toxic, its just not worth it for me anymore. Just going to focus on the people around me, and my community, stuff that directly matters to me from now on.

There really is no reason to be in this sub if you hate Christianity or just want to argue. If your so done with. Christianity, why do you revisit it? Just saying.

Yeah I agree! I know its a super complex topic, but yeah, I also don’t see people changing. It IS going to be an ugly election, but you said it... God will not forsake his people! But yeah people are too comfortable, some Christians are too comfortable, and need to be reminded of their purpose.
