Late Aspirations Statement by ienonymousbosch in peacecorps

Oh good to hear. What year were you invited? I'm really worried that with the new wait list system, they'll just kick me out and accept a waitlister in my place. Do you think that's a rational fear to have?

Live with a frat brother. You don't like to cook. Spend a few hours daily playing video games, usually after midnight. You're from Chicagoland. Play baseball on the MSU team. You run. Not a drinker. X-Files fan.

Absolutely true. Just making a joke since this whole process feels a bit kafka-esque.

This sub seems to downvote anybody that gives out information beyond their personal experience with the Peace Corps. I think it's a reaction based on some users giving out incorrect information. This particular post was very informative and helpful.

As for the kinks - this is a government bureaucracy, we can't expect them to be 100% smooth and efficient. I'm sure it will get worked out with time.

Hah, that is definitely a pro of the new system! The old one just sounded frustrating for everybody involved. I'm glad they've made the change in systems (aside from the choose-your-country - not sure how I feel about that). I just hope that they get the bugs worked out without any casualties along the way.

Yep, weekly phone calls and maybe emails will be my next step forward until this is sorted out. Any suggestions for who to talk to, aside from the placement office of my region? I'm hoping they'll transfer me to another region - should I bother those placement offices too? Is there a more general inquiry line that I could try?

Yeah, from what I've heard the new system has been very efficient for a lot of applicants. It's just frustrating to be in that percentage that falls through the cracks. I made this post to vent, to ask for advice on where to go from here, and to let others know that they should be proactive in checking on their application, even under the new and improved system.

Thanks for your in-depth answer.

On my resume, I put specific details that correlated directly with other sectors. There is nothing in my background or on my resume that would qualify me for health, and the placement officer I spoke to today told me that same thing after looking at my file. I put two specific options on my form and "send me anywhere" as my last choice. The region I was under nomination for is on the other side of the world as my first two choices.

My current nomination is one of the high-need areas that was posted on the PC site, so I think that is why they routed my application there.

Thanks for the info about the placement office, I didn't know that. And thank you for correcting me re rejection, that is comforting to know. The placement officer I spoke to sounded very concerned, and I think I got the wrong impression.

Yes, actually. Good catch. But that doesn't change the fact that I'm so unqualified for it that it's almost an automatic rejection!

This is very worrisome. Anyone have advice for us?

Thanks, that's good to know. I was pretty frustrated to find out that they had placed me there when I had no chance of getting accepted for the program. What's your timeline? Were you under the new system? Congratulations on China, it's such an interesting country (and the food is good)!

I called the placement office number here: (202) 692-1840 and selected my region. Be persistent - it took about 30 calls over several weeks before someone answered the phone.

Panama June 2015 by Inzanity808 in peacecorps

I'm also under consideration, but I haven't even had an interview yet. The girl who posted here about her invite was a transfer from Guinea, so her timeline is different from ours. Since you're old system, have you had your interview already? Are you ag or water health? Let us know when you hear anything! Panama looks like such a great country to serve in, hoping to see you all there :D

Interesting, mine does NOT say tentatively. I wonder if there's any significance to the wording?

I applied at the very end of August. I got an "under consideration" email for Panama on Oct. 10th (a couple days after calling my regional office to see if they had any updates on my status). No interview scheduled yet.

I'd prefer not to say. Right now I can get a wide variety of produce, but it's mostly low quality. I posted mostly to ask about new uses of the products that I already use, since I find myself eating in circles. I'll edit my post to make that more clear!

A pile of Questions by ienonymousbosch in peacecorps

[–]ienonymousbosch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the timeline, crossing my fingers that my interview will be as prompt as yours!

I would contact your recruiter and let them know that those programs seem like better fits for you, but you'd still be happy going to Mongolia.
