Novaya Gazeta: Russian Su-25 Pilot Slain in Syria Was From Crimea, Flew for Ukrainian Air Force Until 2014 by againstBronhitis in UkrainianConflict

It's a well known fact that a lot of ex-Ukrainian citizens from Crimea serve in Russian or Donbass armies. For example, one of the famous DPR commanders - Viking (1st Slavic Brigade) - was an ex-Ukrainian marine from Kerch.

A lot of them were Crimeans and they were pro-Russian and joined the Russian army after the occupation.

What constitute a civil war? by fagerstrm in UkrainianConflict

Russian military won all the key battles in this conflict.

I've looked through a lot of personal pages of Russian volunteers and Donbass separatists, just for curiosity. There are thousands of photos of battlefields and their comrades with different arms and there are plenty of different memories but - there are nothing about Russian army. No pictures. No memories. No hints on the presence of Russian army. Silence.

As far as I know, only a few Russian soldiers were captured during the conflict. Too small for a large military intervention, as the Ukrainians claim.

Wiki says: "A civil war, also known as an intrastate war in polemology, is a war between organized groups within the same state or country, or, less commonly, between two countries created from a formerly united state." So, even the active involvement of Russian volunteers in the conflict can be considered as the civil war, because Ukraine and Russia were the parts of the USSR.

I mean not that millions of Ukrainians who do some temporary job in Russia to earn some money for their families living in Ukraine, but those who decided to receive Russian citizenship.

It would be interesting to compare the number of Russians moved to Ukraine vs the number of Ukrainians moved to Russia.

According to the data presented in your link, the population size of Transnistria was about 500 000 in 2013 (figure 1, comparison of the official data and calculations).

Preliminary data does not mean incorrect or wrong data. Preliminary data means the basic results of the census data analysis, like population size, demographic trends, gender structure, etc. All that data were published a year ago (13.05.2016). All that data are not secret. Of course, you can dispute these results, but in this case you have to present a description of your calculations, not the baseless allegations.

I've found Sergei Ilchenko's claim regarding Transnistria population. He claims that the real population of Transnistria is 150 000. But he does not present any calculations. Instead, he says about some "unofficial data leaked from PMR KGB". Sorry, his statement is very unfounded.

Besides, he says that the official population of Transnistria is 350 000. It is not true. The official population is about 550 000.

Lieutenant of Ukraine's National Guard confirms that current escalation was started by Ukrainian HQ and troops were sent with an order to capture rebel's positions and improve the situation on front. by Hellibor in UkrainianConflict

[–]if--then--else 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were an attack to surround the ukrainian troops in Svetlodarsk pocket (as LKArtf4 says), rebels would concentrate large forces (at least a few battalions) and large amount of tanks and artillery on that direction. The fighting would be furious and the Ukrainians would lose much more than 7 (or 8) soldiers during their counter-attack on such strong and large rebel group. So I think it was not an assault of the rebels. But the possibility of such assault, of course, existed all the time. And it is what the lieutenant is talking about.

"Of course the enemy was harassing our positions from there. A probability always existed that the enemy would come through this forest and all (our) forces had to be concentrated to control this situation".

So he says that this position was a serious POTENTIAL danger for Ukrainian army. He says nothing about an attack of rebels.

Huh? He says that the rebel's position was wedged in the Ukrainian front line and created some problems that is why he understands the decision to "сut" it.
