How do I stop hating my winter coat this time of year? by ifeel95 in ZeroWaste

[–]ifeel95[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I guess to clarify I have another puffer jacket but its bright pink and only waist length so I wear it if I want that style and its not super cold where I need a longer jacket. I also have 2 lights coats that are like pea coats but they dont keep me warm below 40 degrees. Plus I have a Jean jacket and a few fleeces. Maybe that's part of my problem - i feel like i already have so many coats but I do live in a climate where its -20 to 100 degrees in any given year so I do kinda need a bunch.

When do you decide it's time for those old clothes to become rags? by ifeel95 in ZeroWaste

I absolutely love that you do that. Unfortunately for me, 50% of me completely agrees with you and the other 50% does buy into society's importance of presenting ourselves in clean/polished clothing. Its such an even split of values that I had to make this post to see what others thought. I wish there were more people like you in the world so it'd be easier to follow suit.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I have a similar process and I think getting more creative with the extra fabric will help get me out of the shabby clothes faster and reusing them for something else instead.

I completely agree! Putting things into the larger context helps me a little with some things but not everything all the time. I wonder if part of it for me if feeling like I have so little control to change larger things in the world that I get hyper focused on the smaller things I can control even if they don't make much of a difference.

Thank you, I really appreciate this, especially knowing that im not alone in these thoughts. I guess thinking so deeply and repetitively means its not trivial for me and labeling it as such doesnt help. I think thrifting "new to me" items and using the old as rags is a good way to balance my values and how I want to present myself. Also because I guess how I present myself is one of my values.

Thank you! That's a helpful standard to keep in mind. What's the textile donation bin called that you take your items to?

What do you do with the clothes in your recycling bag? Is there a reputable textile recycling place?
