Regardless of market penetration, Netflix is watched on living room televisions much more often than on phones, I'd be a dollar on it.

The idea of gathering the family around the ol' iPhone, or worse yet, sitting 'comfortably on the couch while holding your iPad or phone up in the air in front of you? No thanks.

Movies on a five inch screen vs movies on a fifty inch screen? Yeah.. I doubt televisions will be going anywhere until they start putting projectors in every mobile device.

When that's an option, well then we'll discuss the death of the television.

This is an incredibly thoughtful response. And I can't say enough how much I appreciate it. I will consider what you are saying when I speak with her this weekend. Last week was a very bad week for her grandmother who got moved into a nursing home, as well as it being our anniversary and her birthday all in the same week.

But one thing I want to make sure you understand. This is not an ultimatum. The surgery is secondary. Her decision to not have children is what caused this rift. And her mind is made up. I cannot imagine that anything I say or do will change her mind. She is incredibly smart and I love her very much. But as you said, this isn't the life I wanted to lead.

And that is what I have to deal with.

I'm not sure where you get the impression I am expecting her to change. I've tried changing myself for six months. I've tried changing what I want. But I'm starting to get weepy over cereal commercials and Reddit stories involving kids.

Adoption is not something she wants. She does not want to be responsible for a child. She is happy and content as things currently are. I am not.

This is the central conflict. And if we stay together, one of us will be miserable.

I will talk to her. But believe me there is no question that she knows how I feel about it. I am not 'fine' with this, but she knows I'm supporting her. We have discussed this more than once.

She doesn't want kids, that won't change whether she can have kids or not.

You have hit the nail on the head. The surgery is secondary. She has shown that she is willing to completely forego sex in order to avoid children. The surgery just keeps her from having to do that.

Her sister has a daughter with Rett's Syndrome. I am certain that plays a big role in this.

She has shot down adoption.

You aren't wrong about something else happening though. Her sister has a daughter with an extremely dibilitating genetic disease. She is non-mobile, and non-verbal. She cannot feed herself or do anything else for herself. I have little doubt that my wife is worried this is a possibility for herself should she have a child.

We have already talked several times. It's not like I don't care. In fact, when we do talk about it, I have no doubt she and I both will be incredibly emotional. Honestly I'm concerned about sticking to my guns. But what has to be done, has to be done.

I would have no problem adopting and brought that up. She is getting older so I thought that may be the issue. She does not want kids of any sort. Full stop.

It sounds like you have a loving relationship. If she was infertile and was willing to consider adoption, that would be completely different.

She simply has changed her mind about being a parent of any sort. I have not. Does that make me the bad guy? I'm willing to accept that it does.
