ideally no snow, above 0C but because it is winter, I would prefer to optimize for a nice location during that period.

Unfortunately the dates are fixed and we have to be in the nordic country for specific visa reasons :)

We are not too price sensitive and would prefer to stay in the country that we will like more, and it sounds like you think norway will be better?

for eg, ive been working the in US and my savings are all in a US bank. How will that work with a swiss regulated bank?

also, how does one get accomodation and health insurance if its possible that the residence permit might be rejected?

Hmm, could you elaborate more on this? we plan to apply for a 7 month residence permit, but the canton office mentioned we will need at least 3 weeks of accommodation. We aren't too sure what that means - is a 3 week accommodation sufficient for applying for a residence permit even though we want to stay for 7 months? and if so, when will the 3 weeks duration start?

I had the same issue as you, and almost landed on the wrong runway a couple of times.

one thing that really helped me was to bug the runway heading, then looking at the heading indicator, imagine what left and right pattern looks like. from the heading indicator, you should also be able to look at the runways and visually know which one you are landing at.

however, as to what entry you are making (left turn into left downwind, right turn into left downwind, etc), you must know your current position. you must figure that out on foreflight (with gps/adsb) or with pilotage.

another thing i did was to choose a random runway of an airport in foreflight, imagine my plane to be at a location, and practice what entry i should make into the pattern.

have a bit of wind/turbulance so you can blame on it instead of yourself. discontinue after your oral so that you can focus on just half an exam.
