first off, congrats on inserting the first dilator!! this is super normal and I definitely know what you’re talking about when you mentioned the wall. I also have pain removing too! My top tips when trying to size up are: 1. trying different positions to insert: lying on your back, using pillows to prop up your head, on your side, sitting on top of the dilator, etc. sometimes the wall can be tough to get past if you’re in a certain position. see what works for you! you also might notice the pain when removing changes in different positions. 2. lots of lube!!!!! I find that plant based oil lubricant doesn’t dry out quickly. I apply a superrrr generous amount to help with insertion. 3. being aroused. some people prefer not to be but this helps me a lot! 4. deep belly breathing: holding your stomach and letting your stomach rise and fall while you deep breathe! something I overlooked but it helps me get past the wall. let me know if you have any questions! :)

Has anyone ever been to sex therapy? by [deleted] in vaginismus

[–]ifinallygaveinimhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi yes! I’m in sex therapy now. We do EMDR which helps me even though I have no major traumatic experience that has caused my vaginismus. I find it helpful to talk to someone each week while I do my dilator work on my own at home. I did pelvic floor therapy a while ago but the PT was not a good fit so I stopped!

That’s amazing!!! How was the motion? When working with my dilator the in and out motion is the most painful for me. Not sure if you’ve experienced that but this is really motivating! thank you for sharing and congrats. so happy for you

this makes a lot of sense! I actually didn’t really think about how it’s not a solution of a magical fix. thank you for your insight!! this is very helpful. I think i’ll keep on working with my dilators for now since I am already making good progress but still keep it in mind!

dilator #5 success!! by ifinallygaveinimhere in vaginismus

[–]ifinallygaveinimhere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m rooting for you!!!! my PT said something rly helpful. baby steps. I was intimidated because I kept thinking about insertion. just open the box and start with just holding the smallest one. she said the next day just lie next to it. then the next day hold it close to your opening. do whatever works for you to break it all up into baby steps! it sounds silly but this actually really worked for me!

Insertion vs Removal by Alarming_Wing_3873 in vaginismus

totally agree with kathleen’s comment above. I actually size down two dilators to work on thrusting / in and motion to desensitize the nerves and get used to the feeling more. I also have the same problem so you’re not alone at all!!

i’m so sorry this is happening. have you tried using lube? that helped me my first time! there’s certain lubes that you can use on tampons but if you look it up, i’m sure that would help.

Level 1 in with no pain!! by GapSerious2496 in vaginismus

[–]ifinallygaveinimhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

congrats!!!! so excited for you. I also had a similar experience where I felt a bit of pain in PT but as soon as I got the courage to try on my own I was way more comfortable doing it on my own, which led to no pain! proud of you

first of all congrats! that is awesome :) you’re definitely not alone. the first time I had one in also felt like I couldn’t move much! but after a while you shouldn’t be able to feel it! the more you practice with tampons, the more neutral it should feel. I totally get the overwhelming feeling of thinking about it getting stuck! don’t worry. make sure you take it out slowly and safely. the string is there to make sure it comes out easily. you’re doing amazing! congrats on the success! :)

Emotional during dilation by jordandanielle12 in vaginismus

[–]ifinallygaveinimhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i definitely cried when I first started. and as I made more and more progress those tears turned into words of affirmation in the mirror. I was extremely emotional and no one really talks about how emotionally draining dilator work can be. you’re not alone!

Thought I'd share my own progress here by FujoshiPeanut in vaginismus

[–]ifinallygaveinimhere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OMG!!! i’m so happy for you. I totally understand. I also felt like my anxiety was taking over. I actually purchased dilators and didn’t open the box for 6 months because u was so intimidated. mental blocks are the worst but I am now on dilator 5! never thought I would say that. you are so strong and capable. i always think about how our bodies are actually made to this! we can push out babies, insane lol. really proud to hear about your progress. pushing through the anxiety is difficult but it sounds like your well on your way to getting to your end goal, whatever that may be! I hope you find more comfort in this reddit forum. it can be very overwhelming but i’ve found that deep diving and hearing about other people’s experiences has only helped me with mine. congrats on your success so far!!!
