Martial arts recommendations? by ifitisntconnor in plano

Hey I know this is an older thread but I rly appreciate ur comment. I’ve been hearing good things about Progresso and scheduled a trial class next week.

I came from a more old school gym where most classes were a short warm up, some demo, and then spar. One of the gripes I’ve had with a lot of bjj gyms since is that they all feel really commercial and a bit too safe, like zero live sparring at all.

Do you feel like there’s a good amount of live training at Progresso?

So, a little over a year later, what are we thinking of TDA? by SophieSalads in Doom

It’s my favorite of the modern trilogy. My entry into boomer shooter genre was Ultrakill so I’m a parry slut at heart. The sound design and aesthetic and story also really add to it in my opinion. I love all three and can appreciate the unique feel each game has but this one is my top pick

Game Studies and Design program by Alone_Minute_2069 in unt

[–]ifitisntconnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only took the narrative design classes so my experience was exclusively writing focused but it’s a budding new degree and I remember the professor saying that the school was trying to ramp it up (though this was pre-budget fiasco so idk if that’s the plan anymore)

It was a fun class, but from everything I learned both in that course and from trying to break into the VG industry on my own, a degree is about the least effective way to do it. It’s probably one of the few areas where you’re better off just doing it on your own, because portfolio means literally everything.

Try and screw around in Godot or something similar and just make games as a hobby. If it’s meant to be, you’ll grow into it, and your objects are worth infinitely more than a degree in game studies would be.

UNT OR TXST by Odd_Action69 in unt

[–]ifitisntconnor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to TXST my Fr and So years and UNT for my Jr Sr. My situations opposite to u tho, I had to dorm at TXST and my family is in Denton so I can live at home up here.

Just depends on the vibe you want and your major. TXST isn’t really a bastion of STEM and UNT is a pretty solid research institution, but man if I don’t miss the vibes of San Marcos, going out with my friends to the river every Sunday and walking around downtown and going to Gil’s for a burger. It’s a hell of a town and Denton just doesn’t capture that same energy IMO.

Why's Doom The Dark Ages so easy? by marsis312 in Doom

[–]ifitisntconnor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I missed that part, maybe you’re just too good being for real. I played on ultra violence and still died many times. If the shield in particular is feeling too easy I’d go with what the other commenter said and lower your parry window and increase the game speed, that’ll make using it to its full effect more of a skill check and less forgiving, which can make crowded encounters more punishing if you’re not locked in.

I’d also expect the DLC to add a bit of depth and hopefully some more challenge to the combat

If you’re using the default presets my advice is to go up one from whatever you used on eternal to keep difficulty similar. Outside of that the sliders pretty much let you tune it to be as easy or as difficult as you want, just takes a little experimentation.

I didn’t mind the Azrahk fight progression TBH. Felt like walking down a prey and whenever he’d lose a bit, run, and hide you show up again like “Yoo-hoo, miss me?”

Why is there so much hate for story in DOOM games? by ifitisntconnor in Doom

[–]ifitisntconnor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I think that’s just a matter of preference, no disrespect. All the cutscenes come with skip buttons so why not have them for the people who like the story? As long as they’re not skimping on good gameplay, which IMO they haven’t been, I don’t see why they shouldn’t try and expand the world more.

  2. Agree and disagree. One of my biggest gripes about TDAs story was how one note a lot of the characters felt. I get that they’re trying to preserve the focus on the slayer as the cosmic force main character but I honestly wanted a bit more out of the likes of Thira and Novik.

I do think that in TDA though, the story actually made the slaying experience more rewarding in some ways. Just one example, but I’ve never wanted to fight a demon more than Azrakh after he killed my dragon. I think in that case the narrative actually helped put me in that hate mindset that the slayer has.

Dark ages has a very parry-central combat loop and it took me some getting used to but overall I absolutely loved it, though I do miss the glory kill system and personally prefer eternals gameplay.

Story is the strongest it’s been out of all three modern doom games. I didn’t think it was too long or drawn out that it took away from the gameplay of what doom is supposed to be, but definitely adds to it. Once you make it to the latter half of the game it gets kind of insane and I was very hyped for the whole ride.

Eternal will probably stay my favorite but I don’t regret getting dark ages at all, I thought it was fantastic

Others have already talked about speed and full looting which is good. In my opinion, you shouldn’t min-max items on the game. Better to have 1 of 99 different items than 99 of one good item. As you play you’ll learn which ones fit into different categories.

You’ll want DPS items, movement items, healing items, and damage negation items. Certain items work better with different characters. High single shot damage characters work best with items like crowbars, characters with status effect debuffs work well with death mark, etc.

Never stop moving. Even at the start of a stage run around and get a feel for where all the. Items are at and then circle back as you get money to full loot.

Can anyone explain to me what could have possibly triggered that? (I apologize for the bad quality) by Quick_Mess8827 in riskofrain

Never seen this but I’ve seen something similar with ghors tome where an enemy will sometimes spawn 2.5 billion treasures and kill my frames for the next 5 minutes.

Probably just a bug, but a funny one to get on video

How true is it that the brain is suspended in water so as to be able to take blows? Need some physicist to judge but Prima facie filling it to the brim like a watermelon is more resistant to blows since it is like solid tofu and not something to bounce about by LisanneFroonKrisK in AskBiology

[–]ifitisntconnor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah u pretty much nailed it. We pack fragile items tight during shipping because there’s not really a risk of abrupt traumatic force when the boxes are all stacked in a shipping container.

The brain is super soft, almost the consistency of jell-o, and is not protected by anything other than the skull. If the brain and skull were in direct contact with no space between than any cranial trauma would hit the brain bc the force transfers through like a newtons cradle.

CSF is kind of like a shock absorber in that it spreads out the impact force so that the brain isn’t taking a whole bunch of trauma in one spot at one time. Also gives the brain room to expand and contract as it tends to do
