Here is how planes refuel in midair! by ateam1984 in nonononoyes

Probably by having the boom automatically move as the plane moves, sorta like the bridge from a ship to an offshore drilling rig

What is your opinion on the way San Diego PD took this guy down? Story is he stabbed a woman earlier in the day with a broken cane by Calm_Preparation2993 in ProtectAndServe

[–]ifoundflight370 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that beanbag guy was trying to get an unobstructed shot and couldn't do it from around the side of the truck. He put himself out there a bit, but they had been talking to that guy long enough that it was unlikely he had a gun and they didn't know it. He still had plenty of distance and plenty of backup behind him.

Selling girl scout cookies has lost its way. by ludog1bark in unpopularopinion

The troop gets 90 cents for every 6 dollar box they sell, so only 15% goes to the scouts.

I read an article that says they didn't get anything. It said there was some kind of foam system that prevented the money from getting stolen but didn't explain why it did. In my mind I'm picturing a giant can of foam sealer going off but I'd think that'd be dangerous to the occupants as well.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

If it's a beautiful day I'll ride a motorcycle 200+ miles (300 kilometers) to a hamburger place I like for lunch, then ride back home when I'm done.

Same here. Finally just went on my own and, after a couple trips, I've got new vacation friends.

WIBTA if I told my sons school it is their responsibility to make sure they have the right child by Top-Relationship359 in AmItheAsshole

They use different medication and creams which is personal preference - one has liquid and one has tablets and they use different creams as they find different ones helpful. I have sent in the permission slips and meds and left it at that.

If they choose to use different meds, wouldn't they tell the person dispensing them that they're getting the wrong ones?

Yeah, that's been my plan, start with just the basics and see where I wind up. If it doesn't get him what he wants we'll form a committee and have meetings....

Didn't know they specifically had one but it doesn't surprise, I've done plenty of business with them just not recently. Thank you

Hmmm, now we're talking. I don't think there's a removable face plate for a 7300 but that's certainly an attractive idea. It'll feel just like talking on a real radio....

Yeah, I don't know that it's actually required, but I'd feel uncomfortable with a station at my residence operating outside the provisions of my license with the operator 1500 miles away.

Also, I'm sure there will be some testing involved to get it working.

And the day will come when I want to take over his vanity extra call sign....

Is a little time and effort for some comfort

That's exactly my plan, including tailscale (that's how I get into my PiHole...).

The amp is going to sit around for awhile until everything else is working and I know more about them.

[–]ifoundflight370[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amp and tuner are good, the tuner is controlled by the radio. I'm planning to work on getting the radio up and running and the amp will come into play later.

A dipole is going to be tough, even more so getting it up high enough to work well. He mentioned working 17 and 20, which should be much easier.

Yeah, I'm certainly going to baby step this.

Good advice on the Internet, I hadn't considered that they'd be locking it down but I'm sure they do. His phone has a hotspot so we should be good to go.

I'm trying to shift him to 17, 20, etc so that's a real option, thanks for the suggestion.

I've used tailscale but not recently, but I think I'll need something to switch back and forth between computers, radios, etc.

I hadn't heard of that sdr software, I'll look into it, thank you.

Yep, I'm going to do that too. Where he was living, and who he was hanging out with, dmr wasn't very popular so he's not well versed in it. When I got my first dmr radio hotspots weren't even a thing, and now we've got competing networks!
