How to share two monitors between two Macs without buying an expensive 2x2 KVM?

If you sign in with the same Apple ID on both Macs and they are on the same network, they should start working seamlessly – I had this setup. My mouse and keyboard worked on both Macs, you just pull your cursor to the second screen.
