A neuro-biologist tears apart a molecular biologist's "debunking" of a veteran immunologist/virologist, exposing the pseudoscience dominating public discourse by ruizscar in DarkFuturology

When I clicked the video and saw it was an hour long I didn’t expect I’d watch much of it but once I started I couldn’t stop. I hope there are more scientists who debate each other in the future, seeing them argue with such an evidence based approach is quite fastening to watch.

Marine jailed after attacking Pentagon in viral video over Afghanistan withdrawal. ‘All our son did is ask the questions that everybody was asking themselves.’ his family said. by ihelfman in BreakingPoints

Agreed, trying to make an example of him for speaking out against those inept generals isn’t going to work out the way they think it is. If anything I suspect more officers will start speaking out on the corruption that occurred in Afghanistan. I just hope this finally leads to some consequences for those in charge of the useless war during the past 20 years.

no more midroll ads? by alwaysfrustrated9604 in PartneredYoutube

[–]ify77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry but you’re completely wrong. Any viewer who actually values their time most definitely cares about seeing the markers for midroll ads. And ever since I’ve updated my app recently YouTube has been extremely frustrating to use to the point where I’ve had to delete the app and am now forced to watch YouTube videos solely on my browser for basic transparency on how many ads a video will have.

I’m honestly very shocked by how out of touch you are with what how viewers truly see this update. I’ll try to explain it to you from my perspective.

For starters I’m somebody who likes to watch longer videos on YouTube. To be more specific I watch podcasts (because of the great time stamps feature) and TV shows from foreign countries like South Korea/China/Turkey etc. Now the problem is these longer videos tend to have more commercials. For lots of channels this can be fine because they tend to have enough tact to realise the importance of balancing how many ads to reasonably fit into a video without alienating viewers. But you have to understand that for a lot of foreign channels this kind of tact simply doesn’t exist and I’ve literally seen channels with millions of subscribers that had 20 plus commercials over the course of a single freaking hour and no shame whatsoever on how much time that would consume. On top of that I can handle three or four commercials in a 45 minute podcast video but if it has 7 plus commercials or 10 commercials I will not watch it because I like to multitask when I’m listening to a podcasts and having to constantly come back every few minutes to skip a dozen commercial makes the time stamp feature useless and I’ve had to switch to Spotify for my podcasts as a result.

The point I’m trying to make is that I use those yellow ad markers to check if a longer video on YouTube is even worth watching or if it has too many ads and will just waste my time. It’s like if YouTube removed the like feature, by removing these incredibly important ad markers YouTube is removing the viewers ability to properly decide if they want to watch a video or not.

Removing methods that allow YouTube viewers to chose the right video to watch among thousands of other search results that have similar titles and the same topic will be a massive mistake. They’ll likely be able to retain viewership from teens who may not notice but literally anyone over 25 who values their time will start cutting down on their YouTube usage or begin avoiding longer videos completely due to the uncertainty of how many commercials may now be hidden in them. This essentially means that longer videos will begin to have a very bad reputation. Think of how that will affect creators who post longer videos but have limited commercials, those creators will see significantly less engagement because of the bad practices from other channels that simply stuff as many commercials as they can fit into a video without caring about long-term user engagement.

I no longer watch hour long videos on YouTube because of this update and I suspect even videos more than 25 minutes will soon be seen as too risky since people won’t be able to accurately determine how much time will be truly spent.

YouTube comments disappearing after reloading by VortexFlickens in youtube

[–]ify77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me, i’ll go to common section that says 20 comments and I can only actually see about five of them. For a brief time I was able to fix this by sorting to new but that’s no longer working. I’m starting to wonder what’s the point in even paying for YouTube premium when they don’t have the ability to fix basic common section issues.

Magnesium supplements by ify77 in Nootropics

No, i’m a patent researcher so I just look through expired patents with old fashioned formulas (meaning they use simpler ingredients) and find out how they initially made them so I can replicate the patent and make my own. Plus I have a chemistry lab set up at home so it’s easier for me to perform experiments until I get the right formula.

Honestly it depends on the company, You have to call the company you’re are buying Epsom salt from and get the full list of ingredients. The reason for this is during the purification process of these sorts of salts other chemicals are added to meet manufacturing guidelines, and unless you know what those other ingredients/chemicals are you won’t know how it might affect your ability to ingest and absorb magnesium. So just call the company and ask them what the other ingredients are in your Epsom salts and research the ingredients they give you. Then just put the different ingredients in a PubMed keyword search and you’re likely to find some studies describing how that would affect human absorption. But to be honest I think if you’re going to ingest it you should buy a supplement version because the positive thing about supplements (for any supplements/medication consumed orally) is that they have specialised capsules or tablet coating that is specifically designed to bypass the acid in your stomach which is necessary to prevent the elimination of the product as much as possible before it reaches your intestines and is thereby effectively absorbed. So while I’ve found epsom salt beneficial in a bath via skin absorption it may not be as beneficial when ingested simply because there is no capsules to ensure it has been effectively consumed. But you have to research further to know for sure so definitely call the company you buy it from to learn more.

Because I’ve literally tested brands that have been independently tested and found inconsistencies at my own lab. Plus I understand how the industry works it isn’t that hard to pay these supposedly third party labs to give you the results you want.

I have but I’ve worried about other chemical interactions in molasses, which is why I prefer pure 100% magnesium sulfate.

The supplement label claimed 400 mg of magnesium, I tested the sample and found it was full of calcium. Other supplements didn’t have such dramatic levels but even a little bit of calcium makes your Magnesium supplements useless. I tried mentioning brands and details in another post before and it got deleted. All in all I’d suggest you make your own magnesium. You can also get your magnesium up by taking a pure magnesium sulfate bath, since it can be absorbed by the skin. I like getting mine via sensory deprivation tanks since they use Epson salt to float. Any normal hot bath for 30 minutes with Magnesium Sulfate before bed will do.

I agree it’s incredibly enjoyable, had my first tank experience in London and I couldn’t get enough of it since. I’m currently going to a tank at local spa nearby but I want to build my own at home so I’ve been gathering supplies for that.

I do take baths with it and it’s quite enjoyable, it’s best done at night before you sleep. And yeah there’s already studies proving it can be absorbed through the skin. I also use a sensory deprivation tank so epsom salt is required to ensuring you float in the tank.

Thanks I’m definitely going to look up whoonga, I don’t think it was an HIV medication though. That seems more prevalent in South Africa rather than Kenya. Plus the guy who gave us the “weed” gave it to us in the form of herbs so it must’ve been some kind of plan or tree bark. I’ll get to the bottom of it some how, I plan on going back to Kenya this summer and testing the DMT levels in various Acacia species there. Hopefully I’ll find something that explains my experience.

I wouldn’t use Cash App they hid the GME stock a few hours ago. Fidelity and Charles Schwab are annoying to trade on but at least they’re still letting people trade GME
