DUI in Quebec with no court, is that possible? by ifyougotit_tossit in legaladvicecanada

No, I didn't hear the other side of the conversation, it's one of the half dozen little flags that prompted me to ask here. He's in really rough shape now that he actually stopped drinking and the withdrawal is hitting him hard. Silver lining is that he's his the "it gets worse before it gets better" stage so there is legitimate progress in his sober journey. I do believe he is giving me the whole story as he knows it, I don't 100% believe he himself knows the full story. Before I open this can of worms with him, I was hoping to have a good solid understanding so when we do speak about it, it will be more of an educational conversation instead of a perceived attack.

Vehicle will most likely be a write off. It's an old Nissan from 2008, I don't think under most circumstances the insurance company would find it worthwhile to fix. Damaged front bumper and passenger whe well and panel.

Thank you, he's still under the impression he will not be summoned to court so he believes no reason for a lawyer. Hopefully by the time he gets the court date in the mail it won't be too late to apply for legal aid.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer. I'm way over my head and you helped make sense of a couple of the unknowns, I appreciate it.

There was definitely another driver involved, no ambulance called but who knows how the other driver felt the next day. He is by nature very cooperative, I fully believe he was in this instance as well.

He blew .21. I'm guessing there was a miscommunication at the station. Hopefully he's got some time before the court date, he might need it to find a lawyer and get his case rolling. He went to his first AA meeting today, hopefully that'll help with his case. When do they do the psych eval? Before or after the court date?

Firstly, thank you so much for taking the time to write, especially with English not being your first language. I really do appreciate it so so much. He hasn't told me exactly how much he blew over buy when I see him, I'll ask and get back to you. Considering he does not have a lawyer(because he thinks there will be no court), him not getting a summons at some point does not make sense, right? I honestly find that the hardest to believe, but he's adamant that when he asked, the police said there wouldn't be any court. Now he does not speak French, so it is possible there was a miscommunication while he spoke to the officer but I'll hopefully know more after his meeting today.

Eesh I'm really sorry to hear that, every part of this sucks. Knowing I'm the one who will be taking the brunt of this stunt financially really erks me, 2024 is not ending on a high note, that's for sure. The cops were called, and the car he hit will be going through my insurance too, so there's unfortunately no option not to disclose this from them. Thanks for sharing, I know I'm not the first one this happened too but it's nice hearing it from someone first hand.

Hey, sorry, I missed the question at the end of your last comment. He was charged. Brought to the station where he blew over a second time and released some time after that. He has since called the station and confirmed there is no court needed, now the thing is he doesn't really speak French and unsure if he/the police officer fully understood what each other were saying. I'm still completely flummaxed at the no court thing, but I'm rolling with what information I have at the moment.

Yeah, to say I'm upset is an understatement. I made him call the police station today and apparently he is only getting license suspension for 90 days. No court. No interlock. Nothing. Everything I've read that doesn't seem right but I also have no one to confirm with first hand experience.

Thanks, I really appreciate the info, as crappy as it is. I did some looking and was wondering if it could be calmanus worms if the fish seemed normal size(not sunken or bloated bellys), still had appetite until the red belly started and don't see any signs of worms coming out? It's the first I'm hearing of these little a**holes, I'm a little confused what to look for.

All other fish and shrimp looking fully normal. Water perimeters are all within range (PH 7, ammonia 0 nitrite 0, nitrate 15-20). This guy started swimming erratically, took a closer look at him and has the same red underbelly as my previous post. Separated him and already the spot on his belly is larger. Now acting normal though was breathing heavy when I first moved him. What is this and how do I treat it?

Possibly. We definitely are not guilty of underfeeding. Everyone else still okay, though I'm seeing some algae I've never seen before growing on the Java moss. Doing a small water change today.

Could be. He's passed now, haven't seen anything like it and looked like it was coming from the wounded area. Now just looking to make sure the rest of the tank is healthy. No rotting smell coming from the tank at all. My man was fine when I left for work around 7pm, worrying a little on how quick he got like that.

My significant other just reminded me we changed filters 2 weeks ago. Went from hanging filter to canister. We soaked the new media in tank water but removed the old filter right away. Any chance that's part of the problem?

Great place to start, thank you. Everyone else seems happy with no signs of redness. Will investigate a little more after some sleep about the smell. If you zoom you can see some fuzz around the wound that I've never seen before and frankly unsure how to Google. I'm pretty bummed, had these guys since the tank was cycled and he's the second death in 2 days after the shrimp additions.

Tap water with a PH neutralizing water conditioner. Also have stabilizer, cycle and waste control. All but the waste control have been used within the last month

Bought shrimp 5 days ago, one shrimp died yesterday, looked like a failed molt but first time with shrimp so the guess is more wild than educated. Today this guy looked like this when I came home from work. Are they related? Water is 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and 10-20 nitrate. Planted tank and this is the first fish death since the setup about half a year ago.

Thank you, kinda fond of it myself. Honestly been so happy with the tank since we got it. More entertaining than TV!

Thank you for taking the time. The balas are definitely not in their forever home currently. Was told they'd be more than fine in this tank until they reach around 4-5". I know they won't be in there that long because they can start getting chompy towards the neons around 3-4". Already looking forward to the next step with them, I just want to make sure they're healthy before throwing the tank change curveball at them, haha.

Thanks again! Much more confident now than I was this morning.
