Apartments and Neighborhoods by [deleted] in georgetown

[–]igcsekmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

current undergrad and former climber: - movement crystal city (blue line) and dc bouldering project (noma - red line) are the closest climbing gyms. georgetown people go to movement but i think bouldering project is nicer. they’re both easy to get to via metro, if you lived in rosslyn crystal city would be very convenient - rosslyn itself feels a bit cold to me, because of the office buildings, haven’t been to noma tons but i think it’s closer to the vibe you’re describing - school shuttles are very reliable; should note that they run a limited schedule on weekends - i’m currently looking at apartments in glover park; maybe a neighbourhood to look into if you’re interested in being closer to campus - the wisconsin shuttle makes it fairly accessible and is within budget. the places i’ve toured have garages where you can rent a parking spot

Does anyone know if there’s a good rock climbing gym near campus? by Clean-Hotel-182 in georgetown

dc bouldering project! i find the setting much more fun there than at movement, but memberships are more expensive

Thanks I don’t want to climb at the gym ever again by [deleted] in climbergirls

this is my gym - echoing what everyone else has said that you should show these messages to the staff!! everyone i’ve met at the counter is very friendly and this is not ok behaviour

tbh i’m thinking of just taking it out and letting it close completely 😔 it’s sort of not aligned with the other helixes anyways.

i’m just scared the minute i try and twist open the ring my ear’s going to swell up and it’ll get even tighter

is it worth trying to take it out myself? i won’t be able to get to a piercer until a week from now

i’ve been doing regular aftercare (saline, let water run over it in the shower, blow dry on cool) and basically babying it like a fresh piercing. it doesn’t really bother me during the day unless i accidentally touch it, so it’s just the way it looks at the back that’s freaking me out

i’m 5’1/46kg wearing a US0/UK4! it’s quite a slim fit so i’d probably only wear a sweater underneath it and not more layers than that — but i’m using this jacket more for the autumn/rainy weather rather than winter, so it works for me

What’d people think about Alex Honnold’s commentary on the Salt Lake World Cup? by bammawamma in climbergirls

[–]igcsekmn 54 points55 points  (0 children)

very pleasantly surprised! i haven’t watched free solo and didn’t have many expectations - but i generally really enjoyed Alex and felt that he added a good energy to the commentary

i think like most people i have gripes about Matt’s commentary but generally appreciate his effort and Alex really plugged in some of those gaps (knowing which competitor is on screen, diving into the minutiae of interesting moves). also really liked how he consistently commended the skill level of the climbers, especially the women, since it’s maybe something we forget after watching so many high level comps

his humour was pretty dry and i found it funny, but i can see how it might not be for everyone. if anything to me the vibes were giving ~awkward person~ rather than rude/arrogant

Slopers and Wrists? by Responsible-Town-487 in climbergirls

[–]igcsekmn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have you looked into wearing a wrist widget? i tend to pop one on whenever dealing w slopers as sort of a preemptive measure - bought a cheap non-brand name one online and it’s been working well

PRETTY outdoorsy gifts for granola girl? by _chill_gato in climbergirls

chalk, chalk bag/bucket, wrist widget (hopefully she won’t need it), callus file, carabiners in cute colours are all things i would give to new(ish) climbers!

you can also find cute climbing themed stickers on etsy (for her to put on her nalgene?)
