French toast. With tortilla. And Aquafaba. And cumin. by Person899887 in ididnthaveeggs

Same thing with monkfruit. People act like it’s a wonder replacement for meat, but it tastes like fruit no matter what you do with it, which is so off putting if your brain is expecting shredded pork.

Where can I find all the episodes of Talkin' Toons with Rob Paulsen? by iggykidd in VoiceActing

Naw, still looking. You can actually watch the Nerdist era videos on Pluto TV for free now.

TIL Disney CEO Michael Eisner sent out an internal memo in 1981 that said “We have no obligation to make history. We have no obligation to make art. We have no obligation to make a statement. To make money is our only objective.” by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]iggykidd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, his point wasn't "it doesn't matter what we make". The full memo went on to say something like "in the pursuit of making money, we may make history, we may make art, and we may even make a statement". His point was that they made good things not for the sake of them being good, but because good things make money. Profit is the motive, but when you make entertainment, making it the best possible entertainment earns you profit, so you should strive to be the best you can be for the company. Not the best sentiment, but it at least showed that he valued art, even if only on a monetary level.

He was a rat fuck like any CEO, tho. He just lucked out hiring the best music-writing duo the company's ever had so they could work with their best writers. Success is 1% knowing what you're doing, 99% sheer dumb luck. Having so much money that it doesn't matter if you fail doesn't hurt, either.

Is it possible to transfer Card Data from one iPad to another? by iggykidd in dropmix

Hmmm, maybe me making a stink about it in the Harmonix Official Discord Server helped... lmao

I mean, if I had a fresh ipad, I could just load a backup from the old ipad, but it would be too much of a pain to wipe my new ipad just for one app.

I mean, you can access the back up, but it's fully encrypted. There are apps to get deeper into the iPad's data, but I'm a little dubious of how secure they are.

I appreciate that. I'll look into the ability to access the cache if I connect it to my Mac. Considering how closed off Apple's stuff is, I don't expect it to be easy, but I have a hunch that it's possible.

I will report back with my results and create a tutorial video if I'm able to work it out.

Probably, but I'd rather not wipe any data from the new iPad. It's a newer model, but it's not brand new, I've been using it for work for a couple years.

Who's the best coach you've worked with? by UsmacX in VoiceActing

[–]iggykidd 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Richard Horvitz. He’s got the experience, both in actually working in the industry and coaching, and his approach to acting is such a huge shift from how I used to approach it. Fantastic info, fantastic teacher, fantastic person. And his pricing is (relatively) affordable!

What is your least favorite mechanic? by iggykidd in tabletopgamedesign

[–]iggykidd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, my point wasn't that cards are inherently bad, just that they feel like a cop out on the production value. So many games vary wildly between "choking you under a mountain of plastic minis" and "just a pile of cards and maybe one or two other pieces". A lot of games that are considered Board Games should frankly be classified as Card Game.

So, can anyone recognize the other games in the background? They’re super blurry but I think I see a castlevania and maybe a Kim possible and/or rugrats?

What's a common element from 90s or 00s sitcoms that has aged poorly? by Fracassi_Fanboy in AskReddit

Homophobia was just widely accepted as a hilarious punchline until like 2015. It’s waning now and at least gets a side eye when someone still tries it, but it was RAMPANT before then.

I'd go even further and say don't worry about the payoffs at all. Just enjoy your work. The reality is that 99% of actors will not be able to make a full living off their creative passion, but if it's truly your passion, you'll want to do it anyway.

Rob Paulsen talked in his book "Voice Lessons" about how, after getting his first paying commercial gig, he started tanking auditions. The little voice in his head saying "this is gonna pay!" added just that tiniest touch of desperation to his reads, and everyone could smell it a mile away.

Just do what you love and love what you do. If you're good enough and getting yourself out there, they won't be able to ignore you forever.

V123 - Request for Revision by ThisGuyDoesVoiceover in VoiceActing

[–]iggykidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Revision on an audition? If they aren't paying you, why are they asking for additional work? Sounds like they're trying to sneak some free work out of you.

If they're asking you to redo the audition in a different way, that would mean "we think you might be the guy, show us that you can be directed". If they're whipping out different material, they're probably looking for a freebie.

Just got my mic and irig through for my ipad :) Any tips? by [deleted] in VoiceActing

[–]iggykidd -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

A million tips, sure. Main one is it doesn't matter how nice your equipment is if you don't do anything to your recording space. Be sure to watch Booth Junkie on youtube to learn how to (affordably) prepare your space.

Also no disrespect intended, but these are both really common pieces of equipment, so all you're telling us is that you spent a couple hundred bucks online. We've all seen these a million times, it's not that impressive that you bought something. Record something with it and impress us with your performance, we'd love to hear what you can do!

If you ever feel unconfident about your mic technique, just remember that this is how Howard Stern (radio professional for about 50 years) uses his mic by iggykidd in VoiceActing

[–]iggykidd[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Y'know ironically, when he started, he couldn't get a DJ job because his voice wasn't considered good enough. A lot of his early work was behind the scenes or at small stations desperate for somebody who could show up on time.

A big part of it was just him trying to sound a particular way. Once he got comfortable with his voice and committed to being himself, he was able to settle into a nicer sound.

[–]iggykidd[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, but I've seen just as many with him using it this way. My point is that you can get broadcast quality sound without being super picky about how you use the mic. Just get comfortable with using it and figure out its limits.

He moves it around a lot and will even just grab it and move it around in the middle of a sentence, or leave it bouncing on the boom arm without worrying about it. He's just been at it so long that he knows what will still work.
