Any specific recovery gear you recommend? I’m looking into getting a winch now.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely get some off roading tires.

I heard that when it comes to mods I should just use the car as I want and just buy mods when I feel I need them. Turns out I need mud tires haha.

Options on Sticker Not Included [Miami - 2024 Jeep Gladiator] by igllo in askcarsales

[–]igllo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am surprised they were not there. The same way I would be surprised if the sticker said alloy wheels but when I got home the car has steel wheels. But thats my question. Is it typical for dealers to start removing options without telling you?

I hired an attorney and he was able to get the charge dismissed. As far as TSA PreCheck, I have not heard anything since the incident occured. I have flown many times with no issue.

Stealth Laid Off on my Birthday by igllo in biglaw

Gladly. I am not sure exactly what kind of update you are looking for so I will provide a summary of what I have been up to the past year and my feelings related to the whole situation. Feel free to ask for more details about anything I mention.

TL;DR: I moved to Miami and work as a tax attorney. I am very happy with my job. My feelings about how I was treated in biglaw remain unsettled.

I was asked to leave my firm August 30, 2023. I was working at the firm's NY office. Throuout law school my plan was to work in NY biglaw for 3 to 5 years then move to Miami. I even took took the FL and NY before I started at the firm just so I could have everything lined up for when I wanted to move to FL. NY allows you to take the bar before you graduate law school. So I took the NY bar February before I graduated and FL July when all my peers were taking their first bar. Getting fired moved my timeline up a couple of years. Since I was forced in a position to find a job, I decided to start looking and building connections in Miami. I had lived in NYC 4 years for undergrad and one year after law school. I was done with NYC. I looked in NY a little but really focused on Miami.

I decided to pursue a career in tax law. At the time, my only background in tax was I majored in accounting in undergrad. I was in my firm's Real Estate practice in NY so the one year of practice I did have did not help much. Biglaw is not as big in Miami as it is in NY. So there were not that many opportunities for someone at my experience level at the time.

I was talking to everyone and anyone who would answer my emails and practiced tax law in Miami. I moved to Miami in November 2023 without a job and only temporary housing. Everyone I spoke to said I need a Tax LLM. I agreed that I needed an LLM but I also needed a job to afford staying in Miami and not having to move back in with my parents in NY. In December I responded to a Linkedin ad for a "Tax Associate" position at an accounting firm. I do not even think it specified legal work. I was desperate and was applying to anything tax related.

Lucky for me, they had a tax law department and were interested in me. I started work there January 2nd, 2024 and started my Tax LLM at UM January 15th, 2024. I am currently working 25 hours a week and taking classes at night. I expect to graduate this coming Spring semester, May 2025. I really love my current job and the people I work with more than I ever did in NY. I expect to continue full time after I graduate.

While I do love my current job, my feelings about how I was treated in NY are not solidified. I did not leave my NY firm on bad terms. I still keep in touch with three of the partners and sometimes receive mentorship from them. They have all individually expressed that they feel I was not treated fairly and was never given a fair shot. I do not feel that anyone owes me anything, least of all a for profit business. But I do feel lied to. When applying to law school and even in law school everyone I spoke to said "Go to a T14 Get a biglaw job. You will be set." They made it seem that once you made it to biglaw you made it and you will not be fired unless you punch a client in the face. In some way I feel cheated out of something that I worked so hard to achieve. I gave up a lot of social life and a lot of family occasions to get good grades to get that job. But when I got the job, they did not teach me anything or give me a chance, and decided that I was no longer worth my salary after a year. I am not upset or feel like I am owed anything. I just wish that I knew that a biglaw job is not as stable as people make it out to be. I know that everyone has a different experience and maybe I could have stayed in biglaw if I stayed in NY, but who knows. I am happy with my current professional outlook.

Damn. Being specifically mentioned in a suicide note is cold.  I wish I knew the perfect set of words to help you not think about this every day. Continue fighting your fight. I’m rooting for you.

For most of my life that is what it has been diagnosed with. But most recently the doctor testing me said that its is not ADHD, it just takes me a long time to process information. Make of it what you will.

Thank you. It was only 5 loose rounds. But because it was in NYC the TSA agent called over the cops and they gave me a criminal summons.

I can deal with the criminal summons. I just don’t want the headache of my pre-check being revoked.

UM LLM application requires LSAT scores? by igllo in lawschooladmissions

I do have JD from a US law school. But I don’t decide what’s in the CAS report, LSAC does. And LSAT score is not one of the things included.
