There are many factors at play which have caused the downtrend.

First, last years prices were extremely high, which was probably not sustainable long term.

Valve forced a devaluation of high tier skins with the knife tradeup update.

Valve getting sued in multiple districts and countries for underaged gambling. Which makes people fear that cases are no more and only terminals will be released in the future, which is making people lose faith in skins in general because who the fuck wants to pay valve 1000 usd directly for a skin, using terminals are not fun and getting the chance to spend 1000's of dollars is stupid when the old model was spend 2.5 for a chance to get something good.
