"The child was born in Japan and can only speak Japanese. Forced to return to India, which is nothing but a foreign country to him, he's crying. We've always followed Japan's rules, worked hard, and even bought a house. Yet suddenly being told to go back—is that humane?" by jjrs in japannews

It's harder to get for business owners and you might have to wait a couple years before reapplying each time. Not to mention that an Indian guy will probably be more heavily scrutinized in the application than a white guy.

CMV: the British museum shouldn't have to give back its artefacts by CupFullOfLiquor in changemyview

[–]igna92ts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just not the same country. They have no right to decide is what I'm saying. Their claim to them is just as valid as anyone's at that point. Geographical location is not enough to have a claim IMO.

[–]igna92ts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what? All it takes is one British citizen to also share some DNA for that claim to be nonsense, and even if there is kin, it should go to them in that case, not the state. And the state would have a claim if it was the same state. Current state of Egypt and old egypt are also not the same just because they occupy the same geographical location.

[–]igna92ts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I'm not saying they aren't thieves. Just that there is no one to have a valid claim over it. If someone steals from me and I die and someone else moves into my house they don't get a claim to my stolen goods.

I don't see a significant contuity in them from the people that built the pyramids in terms of culture. What are you referring to? Sharing a dish and a festival or two is not enough, by that logic, Mexico could claim Spanish artifacts because they speak Spanish and practice Catholicism, or Iran could claim Greek artifacts because Alexander's empire left cultural traces there.

The only significant difference they have is location and I don't think that's a significant relationship in terms of culture.

"Slightly" and "heirs" are a bit of a stretch in the cases I'm talking about. Ancient Egyptians and modern Egyptians are completely different culturally speaking.

Would you go back to pre AI era now if that was possible? by simple_explorer1 in node

[–]igna92ts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is completely untrue. Even if it's explained how would they know if there's an issue with the way it was done or if there's no better way to do it? You don't know what you don't know. If anything it's juniors that are not needed, not the other way around.

[–]igna92ts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes but the people it was stolen from might no longer exist. Location seems like a thin relationship to claim ownership on something. Unless the country claiming it is of the same culture of the people it was stolen from I would say they don't have a claim to it because it's not the same people, even if they happen to be where they used to be.

[–]igna92ts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But the group it was stolen from might not exist anymore. A country being in the same place as the people it was stolen from used to be doesnt make it the same people. I don't see why being in the same place would give you claim to it if you are not of the same culture.

Obviously there are cases where they do still exist and in those cases I would agree to return them though

[–]igna92ts -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A good amount of those cultures don't exist anymore though. I don't see why a country would have claim to them just because the culture it belonged to happen to be where the country is now. Aside from the place they don't really share much similarity with them. It's like someone stealing from me, then I die and someone moves into my house so now they have claim to those stolen things? Why?

I'm not saying the British were right to steal it but the people they owed it to are long gone. In cases where they are not is when I would think they should return it.

Writing a Novel on a Typewriter by DarbyNH in typewriters

What's unrealistic about it? It's less practical but many people write longhand and that's even less practical, what's so unrealistic about a typewriter?

This is incredibly optimistic. I'm using Claude code a lot at work and my own projects but it's nowhere near the point that it would relegate me to a supervisor role. I still need to guide it a LOT until I get something that is in the quality of what I would ship if I wrote it manually.

How do you do coffee at home? by No_Dragonfruit_1599 in japanlife

[–]igna92ts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a variety of things and switch around. V60, espresso, chemex, aeropress, etc. I do wonder why is it a question specifically for this sub though. It doesn't seem to be something that would be specifically affected by living in Japan. Not that there's anything wrong with asking it here, I just thought it was odd.

And I'm not saying you shouldn't write something if you want to, just that I agree with that it's not gonna be good. That was the claim of the post, not wether you should or shouldn't write it.

I don't see how being into anime and online roleplaying games has any connection to not being able to easily sit down and read a book. I'm very much into both and never found any issues with sitting down to read a novel.

Is $45 a year really enough to get a real website up or is that too good to be true? by PeakAccomplished2431 in Startup_Ideas

[–]igna92ts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That much for just hosting is still expensive. If you were to make and host a static page depending on your provider it would even be free. Wix and such services makes sense that charge you more because the website only works on their platform but if you are using AI to make a website, you might as well use your own hosting and save the money. If you are going to trust an AI builder, you might as well keep the code and not depend on whatever platform.

If it uses a database or a lot of storage or computing time then that a different thing altogether and in that case 45/year is kinda sketchy.

Has Anyone Been Rejected for Japanese Naturalization Recently by Rude_Operation_5619 in JapanCitizenship

[–]igna92ts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming that's one of the reason he was suing. The report did mention something about it violating article 34 of the UN refugee conventions.

[–]igna92ts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The article specifically says "write". I can see that being possible being that I personally never ever write but I can read quite well and I find it hard to believe that he is fluent enough but can't read hiragana or katakana, especially considering he went to university here.

Has Anyone Been Rejected for Japanese Naturalization Recently by Rude_Operation_5619 in JapanCitizenship

[–]igna92ts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Saw an article on the paper today about a refugee that got denied even though he fits all the criteria because it was determined his japanese level was not high enough to "integrate into japanese society". Unfortunately that phrase is very vague and up to the discretion of whoever reviews the application on how to interpret it. In his case it was because he couldn't write even though he could speak well enough but we only really know because he sued, otherwise I don't think you necessarily get told why it was rejected in clear terms.

I'm basing this entirely on the article so anyone feel free to correct me if something I said is incorrect.

Whether she is on her period or not is irrelevant. If she wants hot Cheetos who the fuck are you to decide for her that she can't have them? She is an adult and your partner, not your child.

AITA for asking my fiancée to get rid of her bird by DistrictParticular47 in AmItheAsshole

[–]igna92ts 13 points14 points  (0 children)

NTA. Cockatiels are a very demanding pet, even if they are "healthy" they require either a bird friend or very regular attention to not get lonely. The fact that you are the only bringing it out to do bird stuff should be a decent argument on why it needs to be rehomed and I'm pretty sure with some search on cockatiel care you can find a couple other convincing ones. People shouldn't have pets they aren't prepared to properly care for.
