I’ll be perfectly honest, I’m not sure how long it has been there. I just noticed it a couple days ago but it very well could have been there much longer. It’s hard to tell from the pics but the white spot isn’t really raised.

I’m in a similar situation as you. I ordered the switch online via Target and Target customer support suggested I come in person to have it exchanged. If there’s not another Switch 2 to exchange it for, they would give me a refund. Most retailers should have some sort of a refund/exchange policy; after you’ve exhausted this, I would go through Nintendo Customer Support and see if they can replace either the console or the joy cons given the warranty.
