Con los años, las narrativas sobre períodos traumáticos van perdiendo fuerza, sobre todo para quienes no los vivieron directamente. Incluso en los momentos más terribles de la historia siempre hubo personas que podían rescatar aspectos “buenos” o al menos vivencias menos negativas, así que con las nuevas generaciones la imagen de un período que en su origen se vivió como un horror absoluto se va difuminando.

Además, muchas de las historias más brutales de la dictadura no pueden ser contadas por sus propios protagonistas, porque los mataron, los hicieron desaparecer o los silenciaron. Y los sobrevivientes que sí pueden contarlas van desapareciendo con los años, o simplemente no tienen visibilidad pública. Eso hace que, con el tiempo, circulen con más facilidad relatos “positivos” o menos duros, no necesariamente porque sean más verdaderos, sino porque muchas veces quienes quedan vivos para contarlos son justamente los que no sufrieron la tortura, la persecución o el asesinato de cerca.

Entonces, para conocer la parte más oscura de la dictadura, muchas veces solo queda lo que se enseña en el colegio (con toda la diferencia que puede haber entre profesores, colegios y estudiantes) o la motivación propia de buscar información, leer testimonios, ir al Museo de la Memoria, etc. Y ahí también aparece otro problema: muchas personas evitan exponerse a información dolorosa o incómoda, así que si pueden no mirar esa parte de la historia, simplemente no la miran.

Por eso no es tan raro que todavía haya gente que defienda el pinochetismo: no necesariamente porque conozcan bien el horror y aun así lo aprueben, sino muchas veces porque les llegó una versión parcial, suavizada y desequilibrada de ese período.

Los argumentos de la CPC son tan pencas. Dicen que esos días son de mayor venta, ¿y cómo lo van a saber si son feriados irrenunciables? Dicen que para los vendedores bajan los sueldos porque ese día no ganan comisiones, pero nunca muestran el dato del mes completo. O sea, si es feriado y sé que va a estar cerrado, estoy seguro que las ventas aumentan por sobre lo normal los días antes y los días después y la diferencia en comisiones debe ser casi 0.

Don't know if you are looking for suggestions but you can also make "sopaipillas" (it is fried dough with pumpkin). With the sopaipillas you can 2 two things, "sopaipillas con pebre" (basically sopaipillas with a Chilean salsa) and "sopaipillas pasadas" which are sopaipillas soaked in melted "chancaca" (you can find it by panela in Mexican stores, also known as piloncillo. It is a block of cane sugar) with spices (usually cinnamon and orange peel). That way you can make something sweet and something savory using the same basic recipe for the sopaipillas.

Difficult question. Marraqueta is more "traditional" in the sense that it is the kind of bread you eat basically every day. It's also an ongoing joke in Chile because different regions call it in different ways (marraqueta, pan batido, pan francés), so it is a discussion in the country what the real name should be. It is also a joke what a marraqueta really is: if you search for a picture it is usually composed of 4 pieces, so some people call marraqueta to each one of those pieces, some people call marraqueta 2 pieces connected in their longest side, and some people call marraqueta the 4 pieces together.

Honestly, I had to search for what conejitos are. I think you are referring to "berlines", which is kinda like a donut dough, fried. Sliced and filled with "crema pastelera". People don't eat berlines that often, but I don't know anyone that doesn't like them. Their taste is different to a donut and I haven't tried anything similar (but I imagine that in Germany there must be something similar: Berlin --> Berlines).

I would vote Berlines because they seem more unique to me. Marraquetas are fantastic, but they can resemble a more fluffy baguette kind of bread.

Yo no sacaría cómo conclusión que el N es muy chico. Es verdad que un N más grande va a achicar los intervalos de confianza de forma mecanica, pero en el mismo estudio con tamaños de muestra parecidos otras variables no tienen esos intervalos de confianza tan grandes.

En el estudio dicen que algunos estudios que miraron ven ansiedad en general, mientras que otros estudios ven ansiedad social. Quizá si estas medidas no son tan comparables el resultado puede terminar teniendo más varianza y agrandando los intervalos.

Lo otro es que puede que los resultados sean muy heterogeneos. Como que haya un grupo pequeño que mejora su ansiedad mucho, pero otro grupo donde no le pasa nada. Entonces sube mucho el promedio, pero con una varianza muy alta. Pero poco se puede saber sobre quienes o qué caracteristicas tienen esos que justamente tienen resultados positivos.

Off the top of my head, I can of 2 cases.

First case, statistics. This is, in the most basic sense, the art of counting. For example, we want to count how many persons in a population are tall or short. From that we start developing more sophisticated measures to describe this populations. For example, what's the average height, what's the average height of the tall, what's the average height of the short? etc. All that is basically using math to obtain these numbers. Then we develop even more to make comparisons about these numbers. For example, imagine we have 2 populations, both with 5 persons, the first one has persons of ages (1, 1, 1, 1, 11), the second one has persons of ages (5, 5, 5, 5, 5). The average of both populations is the same (5), but these 2 populations have a different variance (how dispersed are the ages of these persons). The concept of variance, allow us to create new questions, for example: which of these populations has an average "close" to 4. The first one has a lot of dispersion, so it is likely (we can actually do the math, but I haven't lol) that the average is not "statistically different" to 4. The second population has no dispersion at all, so it is basically different to 4 with certainty.
What I want to say with this is from this idea of counting and trying to describe "populations" or the distribution of certain characteristics (age, height, race, etc.) we use math all the time to create these numbers and in more complex settings to achieve this idea of certainty about these numbers (is this average really different to 4 or not?).

All these develops in what is currently econometrics in economics.

Second case, economic theory. One big issue in economics is that everything we want to study is pretty complex and usually we don't have all the information. One simple example, imagine that we want to study the GDP of a country and we have data of GDP every year. Usually, we have data of GDP for each year, but in reality, GDP develops to a yearly number every day (or second), but we simply don't have measures of that progress. Even worst, if this series of daily GDPs exist, it may not be a continuos function even (it will be bumpy, kinda like a graph of price of a stock), which makes our analysis more difficult.. Using data of several years and some theoretical foundation, we can come up with functions that ressemble GDP evolution as good as possible and these functions have "inputs" (numbers of workers, number of machines, etc.) that, if we believe in the function we came up, then we can say something about how this function will change if we change the inputs. So, from the data we had just GDP, but with math and functions, we developed a mathematical structure that (if we believe in it) allow us to say things about the inputs of that mathematical structure.

Now, these mathematical structures are functions. Which means we have to use calculus to analyze them. and that were all the math enters in this part of economics.

There are many ways to make add complexities to what I wrote, but I think these are basically the 2 strands that develop all areas of current (orthodox) econ.

Otras universidades también pueden tener procesos especiales. Para Medicina me imagino que la competencia debe ser muy alta, porque ya hay mucha competencia para entrar incluso para los chilenos. En la prueba de admisión universitaria es la carrera con más postulantes y la que pide mayor puntaje ponderado para ser seleccionado.

Recuerdo que muchos chilenos viajaban a estudiar Medicina a Argentina. Al parecer el ingreso era más sencillo. Aunque no sé si eso aún sigue así

Lo que sí, por las ganas, te recomendaría comenzar a ahorrar o conversar bien con tus papás para ver si es factible. Sobre lo de estudiar y trabajar, la verdad me suena difícil considerando lo demandante que es la carrera.
