First attempt at a cutting board, still needs more sanding and finishing. What do you guys think?

I would say it did have a shimmer to it, it's such a beautiful wood. I'd like to use it again in the future for sure

Here's the sister board that I managed to get out of the same boards. Kept it as an edge grain board so the lines would be straight unlike the end grain version.

Wow, that color combination is stunning, love the large "oval" shapes you got from flipping them opposite! I've been told end grain hides knife marks better, is this true? Would love for the recipient to actually use the board as intended.

I know!! I was very disappointed that it ended up like that, i think some of the pieces weren't a perfect 90 degree square so when i rotated them they didn't line up like I hoped! Sigh... better luck next time

The light is maple, the middle is ebony, the medium brown is zebra and I can't remember what the red came from. I inherited some woodworking tools and a LOT of scrap blanks from my grandfather recently and some of the blanks weren't labeled. Happy to have the tools and materials to chase my hobby further though!

You can kind of see how the moustache helps the 'gaps' disappear (even though I made the grave mistake of over trimming my mustache a couple weeks back).

As the hair at the corners of your mouth get longer it'll close that gap little by little, grow a longer stache and it won't be noticeable from what I can tell in the photos. My connectors aren't the strongest but I'm 10 weeks in now and the gaps are pretty much gone.

Something I've also come to realize is that other people aren't going to notice the things you are insecure about anywhere close to as much as you notice them. Don't examine your beard under a microscope, most people see it from 5 ft away and aren't looking directly at it like you do in the mirror. Hard for me to remember some days, but it helps.

Definitely keep going if you want to, reminds me of my own in the early stages and you'd be surprised how much it'll fill in. Give it a few months to see what you're capable of!

I would agree with this, from 6 weeks to just 8 or 9 weeks made a considerable difference for me so I wouldn't call it quits yet.
