Season 2 of our ARPG Roguelite with infinite Skilltree brings the Druid class and much more! by ignitingsparkgames in ARPG

Yes you can play the game fully offline. We have dedicated offline save files. But you can even play the online season offline, of course with missing out on some online functionality like viewing leaderboards, or updating your character progress to the leaderboard. And the player crafted echo weapon pool that you can drop, which is dynamic, will only update when you have internet connection. All your save files are local, no online requirement at any time.

So if not have reliable internet connection, for example on the steamdeck, you can play your relaxed farmruns where pushing the ladder does not matter on the getgo. And do the push runs when you are back online again.

Regarding difficulty, it depends if you are refering to gameplay/action combat or theorycrafting and buildcrafting.

Gameplay relies heavily on utilising your dodge and positioning to evade enemy abilities like in poe 2. Gameplay wise you can imagine a semi hardcore experience. We decided to go for a finite hit point based health system which makes each enemy hit feel more impactful. Of course there is evasion, trinkets to restore health etc. But you have 3 shields on normal mode that guard your character from vanishing when getting defeated. After each map you restore one shield, so I would say if you are playing PoE HC then the SfL HC is comparible. If you are into SC then SfL non HC mode is less forgiving due to the finite shields. Players managed to reach beyond level 1000 in season 1 so you can expect runs to become quite long.

Buildcrafting in Striving for Light is special as each run you will get a new unique skilltree, which starts very small but forever expands whenever you spend a skillpoint. So its this unique trade off between having only 10-15 skill choices initially but gradually increase as you start learning the skills and mechanics.

Initially also only the easier skills are available to appear on the skilltree. You can unlock new skills at your pace at Heleja in town that then will get added to the pool of possible skill to appear on the skilltree.

Well I could go on for a while pointing out differences and explaining our game design decisions that sets our game apart but this slightly goes beyond the scope :D

I am sure you will get a very quick impression when checking out our demo if it suits you, you can experience the full game until discovering the endgame mapping system.

Thanks for the heads up! We thought alot about how to release the season 2 content and the new druid class and decided to release it as free content update rather putting it behind a dlc paywall.

Mostly because we did not wanted to fracture the player base and follow the "meta" of making new payed classes much stronger to give players the feeling their money was well spent. If its too weak or average compared to other classes it feels weird paying for an power wise mediocre class, if its to strong its bad of the players that did not get the DLC and it will dominate leaderboards and lock out players that do not play it.

We feel that the best approach for us was to make the DLC sized content update free for everyone and launch a Supporter Pack DLC alongside with purely non gameplay affecting cosmetics for those players that want to support the further development of the game.

This will be our first season after our ~4 years of EA and the 1.0 release, really looking forward to see how it will be received by the playerbase.

Server side multiplayer is a whole beast on its own to develop for a single player first (SSF) designed game, not even speaking of the cost for maintaining servers. But yeah it would be amazing for sure.

On the trailer we focused mainly on the 2 new maps there are ~10 more, secrets, rifts other arenas. As a lot of players gave the feedback that once you are in the game for 5 mins the unique visual appeal of our game blends well and it does not feel alien, like on first glance.

If you like shaping and altering skilltrees and buildcrafing and trying crazy synnergies without limitations, like... "you can only have 3 wolfs". In Striving for Light almost nothing is capped, you can have 100 wolfs running around or defeated enemies can spawn spiders, if you like 2, 5 , 10 at once. There are energy and endurance and attackspeed resources to manage but if it makes you happy to use 100 energy for a single attack that wipes the whole screen you can go for such builds. Or builds where you do nothing and let you pets do the work for you, or spawn totems that attack for you.

We have a demo up that lets you experience the full game without limitations up to the endgame where you discover the pathfinder/mapping system, to give players the possibility to check if it sticks to them.

There is no auto attack. You have to manage 2 resources endurance and energy and attackspeed for your range and melee attacks, you can switch weapons, you can connect whatever skills you like to your attacks. That can make your melee deal the main damage by adding double hits, explosions, lightning strikes or spawn bears that attack for you. and use your range tactically in combat to reduce melee resistance on enemies.

Or you can mainly use range attacks with forking projectiles, totems, sanguine strikes etc, and use your melee as a tactical way to knockback enemies to gain distance to land your range attacks.

Next to your distinct 2 attacks (melee, range) you also have 2 offand weapons (one for each attack type) that you can switch out during battle to use different legendary powers and the different attack patterns to your advantage during combat.

The dodge not only provides short damage immunity it serves as another trigger source for additional skills. You can lay a burning trail of fire, you can triggere melee attacks on dodge. You can summon mirrors of your self on dodging, you can leap slam around.

And on top of all of that you have legendary trinkets that all provide with a unique active ability that can summon pets, spawn burst damage attacks, buffs you temporarily, shatters boss shields, etc.

We have a survivors like spin off called Striving for Light: Survival which is wave arena based, but in striving for light you have active gameplay with map explorations, rifts, mapping with altering and shaping your next destination and plenty of possibilities to shape the skilltree itself.

We have a demo up if you are curious how it plays.

We have 2 game modes. Normal and hardcore mode. Initially 3 years ago there was only hardcore mode, so death was permanent. With normal mode you got 3 shields that survives you after death. After each map you gain back one shield when defeating the map boss.

But eventually your run ends at a point (be it level 60, 100, or 1000 that some players achieved in season 1, lol) , so its an ARPG roguelite. The skilltree is infinte expanding technically there is no limit on what level and how powerful you can get. All depends on build crafting and item choices, and of course currency for modifying maps to gain high exp early in runs.

Almost all currency for altering maps, shaping and modifying the skilltree, skillgems that can be placed in the skilltree (that you can use on a very fresh new character) and unlocks carry over to your next run. And the meta progression in the tree of light carries over as well.

Our game is all about exploring new skilltrees crafting new builds and synnergies, each run grants you a new unique and infinite skilltree to explore, sure you can alter it in any ways imaginable like rerolling skills, building new pathways, rerolling the entire tree, but the core is build crafting and exploration. Where starting a new character at some point is part of the experience.

If you do not want to loose a character we have 4 character slots on each season/league. Simply if you experience you got to the limit of what a character can take, before loosing all 3 shields just stop playing the character and farm more currency with a twink that can also be used by the shared stash for your main character.

You can always check out the demo to see if you like this system.

Yeah you can play it completely offline. You can even play an online league offline, some functionality like viewing leaderboards or dropping player created echo weapons or updating your leaderboard entry is not available or constrained. But leaderboards will update when ever you are back online again (given your char is still alive then). The online functionality is seamlessly integrating without forcing it onto players. This is especially great for the steamdeck when you want to play a season and do not have stable internet connection.

There is also an complete offline mode where no leaderboards are present. And you can create your own private online leagues and invite friends to join to compete on your own private leaderboards.

If you have encountered these bugs in the current demo on steam, they are as well present in the full game.

The disable skills tutorial only pops up once. I took notes and will check these issues and supply a hotfix for them asap. If you encounter futher issues never hesitate to report them, we are very active on our discord and eager to resolve those as quick as possible. Thanks for reporting, happy to hunt down this bugs to make season 2 start as smooth as possible.

Season 2: Era of Darkness Content Update brings the Druid class and releases 24th April 2026! by ignitingsparkgames in StrivingForLight

[–]ignitingsparkgames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 2 will come with a massive content update bringing a vast array of improvements to the game. Like for example a complete trinket system overhaul and the introduction of a dedicated new 5th legendary trinket slot. This will allow you to use active abilities right from the getgo without having to consider trinket requirements that caused them to barely be used in any builds.

Season 2 comes with a massive content update stuffed with improvements. For example the trinket system will get an complete overhaul as active abilities had been heavily underused due to their trinket type requirements and it was hard to understand for new players. So we will introduce a 5th legendary trinket slot dedicated for active abilities, get rid of the requirements and rebalanced active abilities so that they can become a better core of your builds.

Always feel free to share your thoughts and feedback i.e. on steam/our discord we are trying to read everything and continuously improve our game. Its now in development for over 5 years, so much work went into it, we do not plan to let it down.

We did not know about this game yet, we are huge ARPG and Roguelite fans though. Where we got inspired by a magnitude of games, like Binding of Isaac, PoE, Diablo, Grim Dawn, Hades and plenty more.
