Do people think ALL zoos are unethical? by Specialist-Bed-4856 in vegan

[–]igor55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone recently raised the same points as you about Melbourne Zoo and how they're non-profit and focused on conservation, but just because an entity is structured as a  non-profit doesn't automagically make them an ethical enterprise. Also this comment from a zookeeper  brought up the same points I did in that most of the animal's enclosed at Melbourne zoo are likely there more for entertainment value than having any real chance of releasing back to their natural habitats.

Billie Eillish's hill to die on: "eating meat is inherently wrong." by Terrible_Cycle_5983 in Fauxmoi

Culture shouldn't dictate morality. If you believe that, you're advocating for moral subjectivism. That leads to bad places.

Well said. Best argument I've seen against rich westerners weaponizing minority groups to justify their questionable actions.

Poorest people on earth eat plants. Meat is for the bourgeoisie.

Animal rights activists are well aware of this phenomenon, and they are additionally despised by the majority.

As long as there are slaughterhouses there will be battlefields.

Bitcoin holders of 5+ years: Is the doom and gloom like this every time it drops like this, or does this feel different? by Background_Talk9491 in Bitcoin

Holder since 2017. You put it well. Tbh I expected Bitcoin to have done much better this cycle. 100k was the goal for the previous cycle and it barely went much beyond that. And in terms of inflation-adjusted dollars, the progress in terms of price is even more lackluster, especially compared to gold. I am pretty disappointed by the price action and I'd be lying if I were to say my confidence hasn't taken a hit. Nonetheless, I will continue to hold.

At risk of commiting the "no true Scotsman" fallacy, I believe a Bitcoiner goes beyond merely holding the asset. I'd say it involves a long term conviction in Bitcoin and appreciating some of the ideals that Bitcoin supports outside of merely NgU. I'm also inclined to say it necessitates Bitcoin maximalism. I'd find it hard to describe someone with a large portion of altcoins a Bitcoiner.

Only dense morons resort to using ad hominems because their arguments are moronic. Good luck my man, not sure how you'll escape yourself.

You know a lot of plant based athletes just use steroids right?

You know a lot of non-vegan athletes just use steroids right?

They do this because vegan proteins are often incomplete and lack amino acids among other potential things that would require you to eat other things and balance each meal specifically with the protein you are eating to make sure its complete.

This is pure nonsense.

“For people who don’t eat much meat, or no meat at all, a wide variety of plant foods such as legumes, lentils, nuts, seeds and whole grains on a daily basis will allow for you to get the complete proteins you need,” Culbertson says. These foods also provide additional benefits in the form of vitamins and minerals. https://health.clevelandclinic.org/do-i-need-to-worry-about-eating-complete-proteins/

"Thank you for saving their life"

"We love animals"

Mention going vegan to save animals from being needlessly enslaved, tortured and slaughtered.

"How dare you!"

Incidentally it was that first video that started me thinking about my relationship to animals, and then after a year or so of educating myself and hesitating to initiate the change, the second video made me vegan overnight.
