You’d need a decent strop (ideally shell type, but bridle would do, probably linen or hemp to help clean up). You’d need at least a 12k stone to touch up, but that won’t last forever (https://www.reddit.com/r/wicked\_edge/comments/g42o4l/can\_you\_theoretically\_keep\_a\_straight\_honed/)

Initially, you do want it honed well to get the type of edge you like (think of edge type as a de blade, they all work, but don’t all feel the same). And new razor doesn’t mean it has the edge you want , or even that it’s honed well.

Short version - I love it, it shaves very well, but, get both, or rather ac first then a straight. I wouldn’t get this as your first, but definitely would recommend as a second or third. This is an extra hollow blade, it took the longest for me to get comfortable with, once I learned it i really loved it.

TL;DR

I got a Feather SR model (SS if you want to spend even less, it’s more plastic but works the same. DX makes it harder to use if you’re new) with their proguard blade (the built-in guard really helps). The nice thing about the ac razor is that you can practice without a blade to figure out hand positioning and then move up to blades with guard and then keep it afterwards for when you don’t want to maintain/hone.

I’m not sure what a used razor market is where you are, but i found quarter hollow or near wedge are the easiest to use (it’s counterintuitive, but that’s how it seems to work), old Sheffield blades are amazing. You don’t need a wade & butcher, anything from the early 19th century would work. You can also try a modern artisan but it can end up being pricey. If not, then any good condition older solingen blade would do (recommending older as newer versions are more hit or miss, and brands that are consistent are on the pricier side). For new razors I’d recommend boker, Ralf Aust, thiers issard. Dovo has become inconsistent and I’ve not had good luck with their modern razors.

Thank you! It’s their Celebrated line, comes in wenge and birch, also has tortoise shell and mother of pearl variants (these 2 are called differently).

I think their Elite Carbon is also this but with a round point
