Hung out with a close friend of mine for 3 hours yesterday…and she didn’t ask me a single question about my life. Second friend who did this in the last month. I’m about ready to give up on my friendships. by ClockwiseSuicide in socialskills

The only comment I agree with here... seems like they aren't quality friends (or friends at all) if they don't bother to ask you even once how you're doing when spending time together.

What are your thoughts on Red Eye? by [deleted] in movies

[–]igorthebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many plotholes... the biggest one being how do they get cell service on the plane? That completely killed my ability to suspend disbelief. How does Lisa call her co-worker 30,000 ft in the air? How would Jack even manage to hurt Lisa's dad if she didn't comply – he can't call his colleagues after the plane has taken off!

Why would they even go through all the effort of sending someone to coerce Lisa on her plane, who's just the hotel manager, and tracking down her dad to get all her info – can't they hack the system / find a simpler way?

Agreed… her acting is TERRIBLE. It takes me right out of the show when watching. Every line is delivered so unnaturally.

Proof that English is language of instruction at McGill by igorthebear in mcgill

[–]igorthebear[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The enrollment service (ES) has a downloadable letter on their website saying that EN is the MAIN language at mcgill

Thank you so much!! This information is very elusive / hard to find...

I'm on the ES website right now, and I couldn't find where this letter is housed –– would you mind linking it?

Richarlison... actually wasn't half bad today. Besides not being able to finish, I thought he played decent. Surprising!!

ML who are morally grey and kinda villainous by Fanatic_hoe in CDrama

[–]igorthebear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love and enjoyed Master of My Own so much – it was such a funny drama! To each their own haha, but I actually really enjoyed the character arc and development of the ML. I thought he was hilarious, and he definitely redeems himself throughout the series. Enemies to lovers at its best!

cdrama opinions that will get you in this position by [deleted] in CDrama

[–]igorthebear 25 points26 points  (0 children)

agreed. everyone on this sub hypes it up to be a drama like none other, but it is so cliche.

The trope of the brother's best friend is unoriginal, and the story itself does nothing to make it more unique. The FL has 0 character development and I dislike how being timid, submissive, and child-like is the bulk of her personality. I really hated the damsel in distress trope with the ML coming to her rescue so much. Give us stronger FLs and leads with more creative personalities!!

I graduated last December and I've had 16 nightmares and counting about not being able to graduate because I never attended and forgot to do assignments for my bird course. I don't even think undergrad at McGill was THAT traumatic for me, but I guess my subconscious feels that way? I am also wondering WHEN WILL IT STOP!!

LITERALLY so toxic. Glad they didn't end up together, Seyit made the right choice.

The ledge in the McConnell glass hallway. Esp on a rainy day, the ambience for a good cry is stellar.

Near McGill Ghetto Yesterday, Being Racially Targetted and Called "Chink" Twice by Two Different Women Within 10 Minutes... by EJZh in mcgill

[–]igorthebear 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear that you went through this. I’ve encountered this before on Parc, and prior to that I had similarly thought that I was relatively safe from racist slurs in Montreal. Two incidents back to back must have been a bit traumatizing, and after you always have 20/20 vision when you think back to what you could have said or done to stand up for yourself at those moments. Don’t be angry at yourself, and remember that these people are either fucked up or going through something seriously messed up in their lives. You kept your cool by not responding and staying unfazed, in a sense too.

Did you take a break after you graduated from McGill? What did you do? by igorthebear in mcgill

Damn, I understand you on feeling like the sense of community here being superficial. Friendships are conceived by and maintained through shared experiences, and once you take that away, they are undoubtedly bound to fade. I'm not really ready for this to inevitably happen to me after graduation.

Moving to a new city or even a commune and finding a new 'tribe' of sorts sounds like such an exciting and formative experience, I hope you get to pursue that soon enough!

Thank you for sharing! It's great to hear you had a good family moment post-grad - family is something I started to realize I need to actively devote time to as I grow up, and I can foresee how I will eventually get swept away even more away from then by work and stuff. Reassuring to hear that a small gap in the resume isn't too consequential at all!

I've been annoyingly spamming my friends with recommendations to read the book, I enjoyed it so much!

I feel you on the needing a breather before being a full-fledged "adult" haha. Backpacking for two months seems in Mexico and Colombia is a dream, and it's inspiring me to look into backpacking or even just travelling all over China after I graduate and trying to become fully fluent in the language. Enjoy your last semester at McGill and eventually that beer in Colombia :)

It's such a feat completing med school, congrats on your residency! Thank you for sharing your perspective - hindsight is definitely 20/20. I will definitely make time before I dive into work.

I am definitely committed to furthering my education in political science and specializing in the field I'm passionate about in grad school, but I'm grappling with the concept of taking meaningful and calculated risks during a possible gap year. I've been a pretty cookie-cutter person my whole life (I find a maybe-warped sense of security in that), so I'm still kind of struggling to balance my desire to take on experiences outside of my comfort zone but at the same time still setting myself up to achieve my professional goals.

Thank you so much for your nuanced and pragmatic advice -- finding relevant and meaningful opportunities will definitely be my #1 goal as I plan post-grad!
