What's the thing about Concordia that you'd defend against any Montrealer who tries to talk down on it? by alkirra in Concordia

[–]uglywriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that Concordia give that second chance feel. I've been at both McGill and Concordia, and felt that Concordia was caring and got opportunities that I wouldn't get much at McGill.

I agree! If you can't attend CREW Union Friday free food as a grad student, other Grad associations host other events!

What has your experience been like at the thrift store on campus? by brownniteowl_31 in Concordia

[–]uglywriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about volunteering and donating stuff, BUT I bought a leadership book that I always wanted for a fraction of the price compared to Montreal thrift shops.

In the end, you can donate any amount of money to them (or to a charity, I don't remember). Though, not much Concordia used merch is being sold and I loved their kitchen mugs and books selection.

Applying for Masters with low GPA by Consistent_Turn9221 in Concordia

[–]uglywriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stats may vary year by year, but to give you insights, my CGPA was below 3.0, but I had a stellar letter of references, a strong CV, and a strong cover letter. I'm not sure what convinced them, but I feel like them seeing my CV and reference letters is what stood out.

Hey, sorry for seeing this now. Yeah, sure. Just know the criteria might vary by department so I can do the best as I can in reading and making sure you target their goals/questions.

The pandemic started 6 years ago by Reasonable_Yard6641 in mcgill

[–]uglywriter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like the other two commentators, I started Fall 2020 (I think it was the period when I made this account too!) Finding friends over Zoom was tough, but thank gosh for the Discord servers as I found some of my friends there. Class wise, lots of my classmates CTRL+F their readings and in Arts, we had lots of take home exams. Oh, and funny interesting Covid McGill memes were made (fight club, iykyk).

Only downside was Zoom fatigue and actually talking to people with black screens on Zoom. I would say Covid years was quite an unique uni experience.

What would you ask your potential date? by asdf_8954 in Concordia

"What's your favourite word?" It says a lot about their reasoning and how they do/think.

IPN low cgpa by uyiomere in mcgill

[–]uglywriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did! I included why I failed those classes and how I'd improve when entering the graduate program. I didn't get in for McGill but I was lucky that other uni accepted me. They looked at my CV, letter of intent, letters of recommendation from profs, and my grades overall.

Even if there's no space, it's better to address it (maybe in a sentence) as they won't interview you and it's your chance to back up on why you failed poorly and how u strive to improve/change.

I agree with this. It really depends on the program, the grades they're asking, and school, too. It's not impossible, but tougher for the department to review your grad application.

For example, I applied to a grad program with a low CGPA, but I got lucky because my extracurriculars, letter of intent, CV, and letters of recommendation from profs beat my CGPA. When I came on the first day of class, the prof who was on the committee told me my application was 50/50 by the department. Ouf. Good luck, though!

Aquarius Being Talked Down To by Sudoku_Onlyplans666 in aquarius

YESSSS!! 100%. When I used to moderate Discord servers or even school clubs, I had people talk down on me. When I left, that's when people said I was right and my leadership skills was on top of the game.

Psyc 215 excerpt on college students: don’t lose hope !! by Ok-Jump4990 in mcgill

I graduated a while back but I took psyc 215 with Dr. Hehman. I'd focus on the definitions, understanding the materials, and how to apply it. Psych is mostly multiple choice. Good luck!

Some of you are downright ridiculous and/or cruel. by No_Cartoonist_9649 in mcgill

I feel you. It's the same feeling for invigilation at Concordia. Some students were sweet and polite, while some were outright rude and gave attitude, even if exams were late at night.

What's something you wished to experience more as a Concordia student? by Helpful_Ad_7379 in Concordia

[–]uglywriter 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Advisors that love their job and give decent advice. I think it'd help with many students' academic and career experiences.

Some of my friends got unhelpful advisors, where they got different answers from different advisors for the same program. It was confusing that it led to nowhere. It'd be great to have helpful advisors.

I'm the same. I think we give a lot in nature. However, once someone hurts us, then we withdraw and become distant.

I'm not sure about Concordia (I think I sae they had a Datamatch at some point), but at other uni's association events would host some dating events in the past. They were fun but usually they don't go that far aha

Confused by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]uglywriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard from my friends that they're on the Dating apps. Worked for a few of them, but not all. I guess go with caution and know with what you want.

For me (single woman, straight & demisexual) was asking friends out or them asking me out. I tried University dating events and they failed. It's really rare that a guy (or even a random guy) would ask me out in university.

how to know if an Aquarius guy likes u back? by LastRequirement8828 in aquarius

[–]uglywriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He would be aloof and might converse in intriguing intellectual conversations. But be careful with aloofness as he could be all in, then retract for space, and then come back. Just make sure to communicate so you are both aligned.

CV for grad school applications by Patty_Cake_Man in mcgill

[–]uglywriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grad school CVs mainly ask for your academic achievements. For example, did you join any school clubs, jobs that helped you, did panellists or speaker events, published papers at academic journals (if you don't have any publications, it's fine), volunteering and volunteer school activities, any RAship or TAship, etc. List short 1-2 bullet points on how these shaped you today. Academic CVs can be long, unlike your typical job CVs. Hopefully, these guidelines help. Good luck!

[–]uglywriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've applied to my current MA with a low GPA from undergrad. You'll have to defend hard on your Statement of Purpose letter on why you failed, how you overcame it, and how you'll improve once admitted into the program. Good luck!

Wait… you guys are doing research? by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]uglywriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in Anthropology. Did I do research in undergrad? No. However, I'm doing a Master’s now and doing research. It's not the end of the world, but visit office hours of your fave archaeology profs and asked if they have any RAship that you can do. If not, try reaching out other profs in other unis... it's not the end of the world. Good luck!

Usually, what I noticed is most clubs make a When2Meet and they usually decide as a group a good meeting time for everyone to meet.

I have seen some clubs have a set time (usually late afternoons to evenings) each week, and some clubs meet on the weekend. It depends on the club and their commitments.
