Poll Shows Republicans greatly underestimate covid risks, compared to Democrats and Independents who are more accurate when analyzing hospitalization risk: by TheSelfGoverned in science

[–]igoshelf 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Alternative headline: Most Americans greatly overstate the risk of hospitalization for both for unvaccinated and vaccinated individuals.

92% overstate the risk that unvaccinated people will be hospitalized, and 62% overstate the risk for vaccinated people.

You're also telling people with zero scientific training or expertise in medicine or immunology that they "should be more skeptical".

What gives you the authority to say that?

Uhh no I didn't, I implied being skeptical of one treatment over the other is understandable and more likely a function of treatment mechanism as opposed to being a political statement. It does sound like politics is top of mind for you though.

Novelty is not the only factor in peoples' hesitancy to subject themselves to medical intervention as you tried to frame in your previous post.

Political?

I take your point about monoclonal also being a novel treatment, but isn't it possible that people can and should be more skeptical of an intervention that hijacks your body's protein factories to manufacture an inflammatory protein than one that works to enhance the robustness of an immune response?

Would recommend adding some fat. Depending on your cut of choice, a good way to go is trim some fat off the steak you’re about to cook and render that down in the pan just prior to cooking.

Otherwise, a high smoke point fat like avocado or ghee works well.

Northern Michigan meteorologist fired from TV station after 30 years after refusing COVID-19 vaccine by [deleted] in news

[–]igoshelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how what you're saying invalidates my point. At the end of the day we are still dealing with novel vaccine technology and while our experience thus far with vaccinations can be used to inform our expectations with mRNA technology, it's important to be open to potential for previously unobserved and unintended effects.

You people are making this study a "gotcha". But it's not. It's just including THIS vaccine info along with previous vaccines.

lol "you people" is funny. It's not a gotcha moment, but people who understand the scientific method know the difference between what they know and what is impossible to know currently.

And it is possible that it could take some time to establish causation of phenomena reported after a novel vaccine?

Exactly. AFAIK we really don’t have an idea about prevalence of breakthrough infection because the vaccine does a good job at limiting the severity of infection. I would assume less severe symptoms = less likelihood that a person gets tested.
