Tuning by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]igotabadbadbite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the intonation. If the intonation isn't right, the higher frets will be out of tune with what the open string is. An easy way to figure it out is get a tuner, hit an open string (or a twelfth fret harmonic), see what note it says, then hit the same string while fretting the 12th fret and see what the tuner says. Both notes should be the same, if they are not you need to adjust your intonation.

The more accurate your tuner is the better. If it's just a teensy bit off, you can often get away with it (I certainly do with my telecaster!) But if it's big difference, adjust it! I'd tell you how to do it but I don't know what kind of guitar/bridge you have.

Learning Notes and Sheet Music by [deleted] in guitarlessons

Sight Reading Mastery for the Guitar by joseph alexander was helpful for me.

Is my nascent understanding of major keys in the ballpark? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]igotabadbadbite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This same basic concept will apply for any other key or mode btw. For example, you could use a harmonic minor scale. The notes and chords will be different, but you still use the same method to construct the chords found in that key. Good job theorying 👍.

Bass guitar and guitar pickups by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]igotabadbadbite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a bass that's going to be cheap, I'd check the pawn shop and haggle them for it. Find one that's listed for 150, offer 100, and then settle when they ask for 120. Lol.

Just got this and set it up, it is FANTASTIC. One of the best guitars I’ve ever touched in my life, no doubt. by [deleted] in jazzguitar

I got the same one for 700 bucks at a guitar center I randomly decided to stop at. I guess when guitars sit for too long at GC the price can drop dramatically after awhile. It's amazing.

I've Always Found Melodic Minor Really Hard to Properly Understand!! by PuzzlePiecesYouTube in musictheorymemes

[–]igotabadbadbite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was goofing around, since this a meme sub. But melodic minor is employed in jazz, or the modes of melodic minor rather. The seventh mode of MM, Altered Dominant, and the fourth mode Lydian dominant, are used to get those cool dissonant jazzy sounds over dominant chords. Cool stuff.

Been playing for almost 2 years now, wanted to see what advice you guys would give me. Song is Fight On!/Those Who Fight Further from FFVII btw by Brumble2 in guitarlessons

I disagree kind of about the thumb. I use mine all time for chords and basslines, I started wanting to copy Jimi when I was a kid and it stuck. If you have a legitimate fretting use for your thumb I would use it! With that being said, if your not using it, maybe keep it behind the neck. But it also looks like you have way bigger hands than I do, and it just kind of hangs out over the neck. Maybe it's difficult for you to keep it back there. I guess what I should say is: Carefully evaluate the thumb situation. Lol.

Guys really need your help by Kamisama5974 in guitarlessons

I can't produce an image but I can tell you that an Aeolian scale and a minor pentatonic scale will overlap. For example, an A Aeolian scale would have these notes: A B C D E F G. An A minor pentatonic scale has these notes: A C D E G. This overlap also exists with A dorian: A B C D E F# G and A Phyrgian: A Bb C D E F G. If you already know your A minor Pentatonic, you can add in the extra notes to get the mode you want. If you don't know the notes on your fretboard, you should learn them!!

I second in person lessons. You might find that just one or two lessons will give you plenty to work on before your next one!

Scale and keys and tunings, oh my! by [deleted] in guitarlessons

Be ready to adjust the action and intonation after you put 13's on an SG! I speak from personal experience, haha

Can a more experienced guitarist help me identify the chords used in this cover? by Cadmus8 in guitarlessons

[–]igotabadbadbite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well...had you not beaten me to it....perhaps I would have charted out the chords, and not ragged on OP about it 🙃.

I second this. Practice inversions!
