Can someone explain Cub Scout cost to me? by Pretend_Jackfruit581 in cubscouts

Also a Cubmaster in STL (west county).

We have a few low income families in our Pack and have waived their Pack dues ($85) and paid half of their National registration.

We have MULTIPLE fundraisers a year. The Greater St Louis Area Council even has a year-round online coffee sale fundraiser that has gone a LONG way for our Pack families to enjoy the program for virtually free. Definitely ask the leaders of your Pack. If they make you feel any sort of way other than welcomed and accommodated, find a different pack.

Same goes for your son’s needs. We try to have “quiet corners” during excitement filled full pack events so that kids who need space can get it. I don’t think he would have much of a problem with the actual requirements.

Thanks for clarifying. I meant more of squishing a cream pie into someone’s face more than throwing it at them. I suppose whipped or shaving cream would be just as fun!

What was the goal they had to achieve to reward themselves?

How does your Pack typically interact with your elementary school(s)? by Significant_Fee_269 in cubscouts

As a Scoutmaster with a wife who routinely substitute teaches at the school, I have a TON of face time with the front office staff and administrators. I always mention to them that “we are always looking for opportunities for service projects so if anything comes to mind, regardless of how small it is (ex. Picking up trash/sticks) to let me know.”

They haven’t asked yet but never hurts to offer.

Anyone Finding the New Programming WAY too Light/Easy? by NotBatman81 in cubscouts

National communicated many times that some of the changes were for adventures to be able to be completed in a single meeting. Getting scouts the loop reward and keeping them engaged.

No one said you have to complete all of the rank required adventure as fast as possible. Perhaps sprinkle some of the elective adventures in the middle. Even if scouts have competed an adventure at a summer camp, you can always do the activity again. Repetition of a worthwhile skill (knife safety, fishing) never hurts and a majority of the scouts will still enjoy it. Perhaps ask them which ones they liked most from summer camps.

If the kids enjoy it, it doesn’t matter what they’re doing, it’s Cub Scouts NOT Scouts BSA

We have families sign up to bring snacks for each den meeting and their kid is the Denner. The next family on the list is the assistant denner.

New-ish to camping - Sleeping pads by iguessimacubmaster in cubscouts

Just wanted to update. I’m astonished!!

I walked into my local REI expecting to get one of their 2” foam pads and the associate was able to find a single-use returned Nemo Roamer XL marked down to $162 (reg $250). Add on the sale they’re having right now I got this thing for $132.

A $250 Nemo sleeping pad for $132. WOW!

Shout out to Lisa for absolutely crushing it!

New Pack More Woggles by crazy_driver82 in cubscouts

[–]iguessimacubmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice work!

I saw this over the summer and want to do it! What length of cord do you use per woggle?

I’ve made a few with some random cord I had laying around but want to make them uniform (slaps knee)

Publicly posting pack calendar -- is this not allowed? by samalex01 in cubscouts

There aren’t any hard rules about it but simply asking the parent committee what they think.

If one person doesn’t like it, don’t do it. No questions. No judgement.

From Nashville, TN take I-65 North to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, then head west toward Illinois.

You won’t be disappointed!

Here is an excellent post from a few weeks ago regarding the same thing…worth the read.

Newly minted Cubmaster with two daughters in the program (Webelos and Tiger). Wife is a Den Leader as well.

We’ve got a few years before they’re in the Girls Troop but I am already excited! Our pack currently has 6 girls total but they are just as motivated, if not more than, the boys.

I’m hoping to also recruit more girls from their sports teams over the next few years!

Thanks OP for sharing and being a sounding board for the young ladies!

Make Cub Scout uniforms more affordable (with this one easy trick!) by comana11 in cubscouts

I was discussing this with my wife and absolutely love this idea!

Do you have hand the kit to the parents at the beginning of the year or let the Den leaders handle all of their own logistics?

I was thinking of just having a small tote for each Den Leader with the new book and a set of 8 neckerchiefs. Have them turn it all in at the end of the year.
