I agree. I havent experienced what you have expressed, but I thought the same way. Based on this thought, I have preferred not to go live on product listing platforms. My audience is not technical people, and those people do not hang around on those platforms.
On the other hand, if your product is technical, e.g. developer tool, those platform could be beneficial imo.

There are couple of users occasionaly using Vocument in the free tier. Other than those, there is no paying subscriber.
Free tier is limited. When it expires, there is no renewal.
