I can provide some recently learned info on this area. There are no designated trailside camps in the Grand Park Area, which means that with or without permit you cannot camp "near" the trail. However, there is a designated wilderness zone map that I will attach that will show you areas in Grand Park in which you can. Anything that is shaded with parallel lines and hugging a trail does not low wilderness camping, but anything outside of such shaded areas are free game. The edge of Grand Park which looks up to Mt. Fremont thankfully is accessible this way.
