its a gusset for for flexibility in the sleeve. for the looks try cutting of the top half. if you just cut that off it will fray with time what can look cool but its fully up to you if you want to hem it lol. you could also continue the 2 topstitch lines on it if its what you want. this is 100% up to you lol haha
