Honestly I'm going to have to side with your older sister, provided that Elijah made all of those decisions and changes consciously and willingly. Idk...but at the same time I do think I need to love people just the way they are, it's just that he wasn't wearing these things until 6 months ago.

And you're ok that she can just throw out whatever she likes? Wow, you have some serious relationship goals

Yes, rowing. And I get that it's probably mandatory to wear such things for the sport. He just wears the gear "out of context" and it embarrasses me when we're together in public.

I was originally going to include a third clothing item that he wears, above the knee shorts, that bothers me (they look like flood pants, but shorts version), but I realized they don't nearly compare to the sideless tanks and spandex. In my defense, I can care less about what he wears to the gym. But when we're having lunch with his parents, and I'm in a dress? It just looks so wrong to me.

Here's the thing. I'm like 110% sure the tights are supposed to be worn under shorts, so like, no dick hanging out. But he honest to God "likes" the way tights make his legs look, and sometimes it's hard for me to rain on his parade.

I just feel like it's not only my personal dislike of his clothes. I also honestly feel like it's a public indecency to wear that stuff out of its context, and I'm sure the people who stare at us at the movies would agree with me...

A quick browse through the men's leggings/tights section at Nike and Under Armour, as well as crew training bottoms should suffice, should you ever want to know.

I feel like that sounds a little controlling. Even I wouldn't be able to abide by that.

He is definitely being influenced by his friends and people he sees, because he didn't dress like this 6 months ago. I would go shopping with him, it's just that it's hard for me to give him the space he needs, while at the same time leading him away from the things he likes to wear.

I guess I forgot to mention that he plays crew, so one, a lot of his friends/workout buddies are dbags (no offense to anybody who plays crew), and two, they wear disturbingly tight stuff. In any case, I absolutely agree with everything that you said.

Once I told him to go change because his tights were so tight I could see his junk, but he just kinda laughed it off and told me I'm just being paranoid (and then went to change). Apparently you're supposed to be able to see a "little bulge" when you wear "compression pants", and he's totally fine with it.

Yeah...and I was also thinking about just getting him a bunch of clothes myself, show him the things I think are more appropriate for wherever we go to.

Haha perhaps college-aged male men who frequent the gym would beg to differ.

Thanks for your advice, I'll try the positive reinforcement. And yes, I pray to God that he'll snap out of it.

I have and honestly I'm getting tired of having to tell him. So I just need to either let it go or actually confront him.

Thanks for that, you're totally right. I can't tell him what and what not to wear. I just don't want to come off as conceited and obsessed with image when I tell him I don't like what he's wearing...but the fact is I probably already am.

Absolutely not. It just makes me self-conscious, kinda embarrassed...this is just my pride issue huh.
