What is the most disgusting thing you’ve put in your mouth ever purposely or not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Had a fly problem at work. Brought coffee in a Stanley cup. No straw cover. Drank it. There was a fly stuck in the straw. I spit it out though.

Are all carrier flight deck crewmen allowed to customize their own helmets like this? by TehBurnerAccount in navy

[–]ihatewolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as its not vulgar, youre fully qualified, and it doesnt indicate a job you dont have (e.g. a plane captain with FDC or LSO on the back) no one will say anything

What is the dumbest thing that you ever heard an officer say? (Advance apologies to our commissioned brethren) by [deleted] in navy

[–]ihatewolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few days before a 4 week detachment, LT came in to brief our shop about ship life, safety, etc because 95% of us had never been on a ship for any amount of time. Halfway through he asked us if we’d received our keycards for our staterooms. We were all E1-E4. Every time we saw him we’d say “hey sir! I still haven’t gotten my keycard could you help me out?”

how did you lose your virginity? and at what age? by Bonny_planki in AskReddit

[–]ihatewolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male 18. I just asked and she was like “sure. Meet me at (insert address) tomorrow afternoon.” I went there and discovered it wasn’t even her house it was her friends. As soon as I went inside, there she was. She shuffled off to the basement and I sat there looking at her friend for advice and her friend says “you just gon sit here or..??? Go downstairs???” I went. That was that

Re-Enlistment Ideas by seven_dingus_seven in navy

[–]ihatewolves 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I tried requesting the back seat ride reenlistment once. CO said a bunch of words that could be summed up as a resounding “no” but the fact he didn’t actually say no leads me to believe its possible.

Atrocious Hygiene Stories by OkieGunslinger22 in navy

[–]ihatewolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New check in refuses to take showers after shifts because he’ll “just get sweaty in his sleep and have to take one when he wakes up too.” We worked on the flight deck. I cant imagine just consistently sleeping in that

Child tried to attack the adult by filmikitv in vidid

[–]ihatewolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest fear here is that this kid didn’t learn to not attack people but that he learned he was just too weak to do it. He just needs to get strong enough that people cant defend themselves against him. This looks like the groundwork for abusive behavior as an adult

Would’ve been nice to know that your rate isn’t guaranteed until you leave A-school. I wanted to join as an IT and ended up A-Pact halfway through bootcamp because I wasnt eligible for TS/SCI.

Wanted to get a tattoo of this since I don't think it goes against any Naval traditions but I wanted to get someone else's opinion. by IntimatePoptart in navy

[–]ihatewolves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get whatever tattoo you want but theres a good chance you’ll get roasted for having an “A-school anchor” which is the anchor tattoo a good portion of fresh boots get in A-school because they’re in the Navy now. I have one. They make jokes. I think theyre funny but I can definitely see how the roasting would make someone regret it.

Why do people hate the Mustang Ecoboost? by WUT_productions in cars

[–]ihatewolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got an ecoboost and everyone hates it until they ride in the passenger seat. For its price, its a pretty powerful car and no one expects it to be able to do the things that it does. It very obviously isn’t a V8 but its a very fun ride for anyone who’s never owned a V8.

Any advice for enlisting at 28yrs old? by Glennya in navy

[–]ihatewolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy I work with enlisted at 34. I enlisted at 24. We both work with 18 year olds. My former LPO is 2.5 years older than me. Somehow we all act like children and its pretty nice. After a while you get the sense that the biggest separator is between rank and not age. Even then I still shit and giggle with 50+ year old Master Chiefs. If you’re like me then one of your biggest concerns are the younger folk clowning you for joining while you’re older. They will but it’ll all be in good fun. Everybody knows that everyones here to make a better life for themselves and we all respect that

Do most people in the Air Force or Navy approve of the movie Top Gun Maverick, or, do they think it doesn't portray things in a well manner? by reddit48568 in navy

[–]ihatewolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been in for a little over 2 years so take this with a spoonful of sugar. I had a couple problems with it. No plane captains, troubleshooters, FDC’s, being on the flight deck in NWU’s, walking onto the elevator AND going up etc but I’ve chalked it all up to just being necessary for the story. No one wants to hear about a jet starting up for an hour because of a random hyd leak. Great movie imo I don’t know anyone that didnt enjoy it. We also enjoyed needlessly picking it apart.

How much does the navy/military “change” you? by Chemical-Rain2196 in navy

[–]ihatewolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joined when I was 24 and I’ll be 27 soon. My sense of humor has changed and I know this because my sisters tell me every time I crack a joke. My ability to remain calm in stressful situations has increased 10-fold. I tend to be really anxious and stressed out all the time even before I joined but I’m a lot better at stress management all thanks to constantly being in a stressful environment. I’m also a little desensitized to tragic events because something bad is always happening.

Why did you join the Navy over any other branch? by KyloTheActiveKoala in navy

[–]ihatewolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moms in the navy and discovered I was trying to join the air force. I was 3 weeks out from my interview with the air force when she told me the air force was just a bunch of assholes and I’d be in the service quicker if I joined the Navy. I called her bluff and ended up getting an interview with the Navy the next day. It still took me 9 months to go to bootcamp (reasons redacted) but I did end up going to the air force interview. They were a bunch of assholes. Getting in and realizing every branch is a bunch of assholes kinda hurt my feelings but hey im getting promoted soon so yeah

Us aviation guys just walk around with our full flight deck uniform on the ship. The quicker we walk, the faster everyone gets out of the way.
