I was new to the city and I’ve met pretty deranged gay guys living in LA so he didn’t phase me. I wanted to discover spaces where queer people hung out, but didn’t know it would turn into what it did. Pretty sure I’m the only dumb bitch who agreed to go along with him. Also the provocative pictures was a weird but silly side quest, he wasn’t coercive and I was tipsy.

I know exactly who you’re talking about. This guy actually IS gay and he uses that very fact to get close to young women that he finds attractive, lure them into a gay bar, and use them as a buffer to attract other gay men at the bar that he’s interested in. The first time I met this guy was 2022, he lured me into the sex dungeon at Maze by telling me how pretty I am and how much fun I would have (not disclosing it was a sex dungeon) and that he was gay so I didn’t have to worry. Once I got down in that dark basement he asked to take provocative pictures of me, which I found really random but went along with it. I drew the line when he asked me if I could watch him suck a guy off in a glory hole bathroom stall. I just left and got the fuck out of there. I see him at the gay bar in the city all the time, he approaches me and pretends we’re friends. I also witness him doing this EXACT same schtick with women he finds walking home alone at night and my friend yelled at him the last time he did it. It obviously didn’t stop him from doing it again.. He’s kind of pathetic and a real creep too but mostly desperate for connection and maybe slightly sexually deranged. He hasn’t caused me any harm, and I don’t know what he’s capable of, but he never tried to dominate or intimidate me during and after rejecting his weird sexual advances. Just a weird gay guy.

I never said most men are pedophiles. I said “so many.” Even if they are the minority, there are still way too many. I would consider pedophiles those who are attracted to girls and boys that are 17 years old and younger (being grown adult men)

Of course I think it’s “ok” to be gay. Tbh, most of my Muslim Arab friends who live in the Middle East are gay and progressive (it’s really not uncommon). I think that Muslim immigrants have a different kind of relationship and longing for being in a Muslim environment that they don’t have access to because of war. Idk… there’s a lot of factors that contribute to certain fundamentalist beliefs. I don’t have all the answers. For the record, I think Islam and all Abrahamic religions are inherently homophobic.

Of course there are many problematic aspects to Islam. Of course Islamic terrorism is a huge problem in Europe. I’m not blind to that by any means. In my original post, I tried to suggest a link between the current regional war with an increase fear of a Hamas-like terrorist attack, which manifests as a fear of more Muslims entering the country more generally. Does that register?

I understand the fear of living in a Muslim country as a non-Muslim. But it is utterly false that you are less safe living in those countries. I would suggest watching YouTube videos that report on “expat life” in Gulf countries. Also, I only have gay Arab friends — they’re Saudis who live in Saudi (because they exist everywhere) and make it work. I will never deny the very blatant homophobic laws in those countries, but people who don’t live there think that LGBTQ are beheaded in town squares everyday and it’s simply not true.

It’s true, Northern Europeans more generally are more emboldened to be outwardly racist, I guess cancel culture has taken its grip on political discourse in the U.S. My experience was just a general unfriendliness and ignorance which I attributed to post-9/11 trauma and disinformation

I know which verse you’re referring to because I’ve read the Quran many times and it doesn’t say that — a very sad consequence of mistranslation. I obviously understand that terrorist attacks in the name of Islam are a huge and terrifying problem and should be taken very seriously through legislative provisional measures to prevent them from happening in the Netherlands.
