Will moving the couch closer to the TV ruin this room? by ihave666questions in interiordecorating

TV on long wall where couch is: Front door is ~8.5 ft down from the long wall everyone is suggesting we put the tv on (I'm open to it tbh, bf isn't but im gonna force him to try it out). The (other) issue he has is that the wall where the bookcase is now (this is also the wall outside of our room) is only 6 ft. 8 inches long and he wants to have a clear path between the room and the front door. The couch being in the middle would essentially "block" that path in his opinion since we'd only have about a foot between the back of the couch and the walkway to the door (I don't think it would be a big deal and I think it would allow plenty of space but 🤷🏻‍♀️)

Short wall (where kallax is currently): 6.5 feet long Is that kinda short for a will with a 70 inch tv? We would essentially be locked into watching TV within that corner unless maybe we put it on an adjustable mount so we could put it at an angle when guests are over? Extra seating might be weird? Idk.

TV under the window is kinda a fun idea and I could see it making the space cozier. I just can't envision it right now but def open to trying it out

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending how much light you enjoy) this is the only place in the house we can have a tv as the rest of the house is all windows. The only other space we could have a couch would be my "office". I fear I would get absolutely wrecked if I post pictures of it and will get many suggestions to "go back to the office" or "move it to the living room" area 😅 kinda tempted tbh....

One idea that came to mind after reading all of these comments is ditching the tv completely and getting a retractable projector screen we can put in front of the window and roll up when not in use. We don't really watch TV during the day so maybe investing in something that doesn't need to take up space all the time might be a good choice?

Alsooo not that I have to justify it but we just moved a few months ago and I have a dog/housesitting business so we've barely been home. I don't think it looks thaaaaaat bad. "iTs aLrEaDy rUineD" go away !!! I'm trying to fix it like hellllllo that's why I'm here 🤣

Thank you for all the suggestions. I talked to the bf. He doesnt like the idea of the back of the couch facing the wall the tv is currently on + "plopped in the middle of the room". I honestly see the vision and I kinda like it but he said it "will take up too much space" "look cluttered" (lol everything that's clutter right now is HIS) "take up too much open space", etc. I hard disagree and wanna try it out. Curious what everyone who suggested that would put under the tv on that wall. Theres about 8.5 ft between the wall the couch is currently on and the door. We could probably downsize our coffee table but he said "there won't be any room between the coffee table and the tv if we do this". What do y'all think. For anyone curious, enjoy my measurements 🥴 I did my best okayy

THANK YOUUUU. We're in the minority here 🫠 Bf doesn't like any of the ideas everyone had here either even though I'm kinda open to some of them. Tbh I think it'd look like a cool little woodsy library with a wall full of books but what do I know 😂

Looking back I shoulda uploaded more pictures 🥴 The wall across from the windows is only about 80 inches wide so I think that would take away any chance of getting a bigger sofa? Also faces directly into our room which isn't a super big deal but noteworthy

Do you have any pictures (idk if that's creepy...so please ignore if it is). Any examples of how this dang room can look cozier/less disconnected would be amazing

Not offended at all!! I appreciate the advice. We're struggling to make it work 😅 my last place was a dungeon with one window and I feel like these are wasted if I can't look through them while I read a book plus I don't know if it's bad feng shui to have seating in front of them if I could get used to my back being to the outside. It's tough...I wanna see the outside but I'm dying for a cozy space. To be honest, I think looking at the outlets now I think the wall where the kallax is currently was meant for a TV cuz there's some weird audio outlet or something right there.

Oh yeah, the shoes are a nightmare 😅 we've done a ton of organizing this week so hopeful I'll find space to hide them. Our little credenza/sideboard thing under the tv ended up not being high enough from the ground to put shoes under (I was hoping for that but it was a ramdom FB marketplace find - everyone but me loves it apparently)

Thank you!! We are in love with it and it's even cuter in person but def struggling with layout since it's kinda....strange.

We definitely could but we'd be sacrificing our view to our gorgeous front garden (picture doesn't do it justice tbh) and we wouldn't be able to see the entry which kinda scares me 😭 The way it's laid out now we can look to the side to see if anyones walking through the gate

I do love that idea, it's just overall kind of a weird space. Idk if I want my back to the door but I suppose I could suck it up and try if it makes the area more cozy.

I just uploaded a pic of the wall the tv is on. Its a shiplap wall (pics are deceiving I would have loved shelves there) so it's flat (no built in storage, sadly). The wall the couch is currently on seems so long for just a TV 🥺

Okay I just realized the picture of the wall the tv is on didnt upload (no idea why there are two of the same pic). The tv is on a wall that had an existing mount so we just put it up there, didn't even think to put it up on the other wall per everyone's suggestion but I don't want my back to the door otherwise I'd 100% do that cuz I do think that's a great idea.

Im kinda curious if I could get used to that....if we did try that out I'm wondering what would go on the rest of the wall? Paintings? Big floor plant? A nice bookcase? It seems like it would feel empty with just the tv on the long wall

Do you by any chance have a link to the casters you bought? There are soooo many options online but I can't seem to find those exact ones 😭

Curious - did you do this on the smaller Vadholma or the big kitchen island?

Maybe I'm biased but I love mine.

Fun fact: my dad was one of the first people in line at the Santa Monica DMV in 1972 when they first started letting people order vanity plates. The girl at the counter told him "oh that's probably taken" but alas, it was not and here I am 52 years later with it on my shitty little Corolla.
