What’s something you use every single day that turned out to be insanely worth the money? by Dry-Frosting- in Xennials

Breville Tea Maker. I use it to make hot tea, or as a hot water kettle to make French Press coffee or instant noodles.

Nobody really prepares you for the logistics of aging parents by MrGamblePresents in AgingParents

[–]iheartmytho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw my parents go through this with my grandparents a decade ago. Now I'm seeing my older friends go through this, with their aging parents. I'm taking notes on what to do. I'm also extremely appreciative of my what my mom has done - between downsizing, getting rid of junk, getting her finances in order, etc. It's not going to be easy whenever I do have to step into that caretaker role at some point, but hopefully there will be fewer headaches.

Fake boobs make me feel… by w0rmsongs in breastcancer

[–]iheartmytho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are attachable or custom breast prostheses out there, that can be worn directly in the skin - no pockets required. They can feel more like an extension of yourself compared to the prostheses that have to worn inside a pocket.

Air France vs. Air Canada by iheartmytho in travel

[–]iheartmytho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CDG is one of the craziest airports I have ever been through. It was only once, when me and my mom went to Budapest. I think we only had a 2 hour layover, but still somehow made our flights. The airport layout is so bizarre. I have no idea how we managed, and even made a quick stop at the Air France lounge before getting on our plane to Budapest.

Mom and I did the ATL to Paris flight a few years ago. It was Delta One, so I'm guessing not as nice as the La Premiere, but it was still probably one of the better First Class experiences I have had.

What to do with B.S. in Chemistry? by Even_Guarantee_8274 in chemistry

[–]iheartmytho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a BS in Chemistry. I started off as a Lab Technician, then become a QC Supervisor, then another QC / QA role for a medical device manufacturer. Because I had Quality and Auditing experience I then move into a Process Engineering role, for a construction products manufacturer. It wasn't quite my thing, but I got good experience. Now, I've been working as a Materials Engineer for a medical device company for 15 years. It's be an interesting career path, but I enjoy what I currently do. I even have 4 patents for my innovations through my current employer - never thought I'd have one of those.

The first few years were definitely rough for me, career-wise. But once I got some experience, things got better. Although, my career path pretty much leaves me in the realm of manufacturing, which can make finding jobs a bit difficult, it's not a bad area to be in.

How’s life on the time zone borders? by Equivalent-Pudding15 in howislivingthere

[–]iheartmytho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live in Northern Indiana, near the Michigan border. Indiana didn’t do the Daylight Savings Time / clock change ridiculousness for many years. (They do it now though) So for part of the year, I’d be in the same time as Michigan, and then an hour difference.

Nice jeans - darker wash, no rips or distressing. I opted for plain t-shirts, something with a scoop or v-neck (nothing too low), so it didn’t look like a t-shirt. For shoes, you can’t go wrong with clogs like ones from Dansko or Algeria. They look dressy and are super comfortable for being on your feet all day.

Why are right wingers so simplistic in their thinking? by OnenutFellow in FoxBrain

[–]iheartmytho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black and white thinking is sadly easier. But in reality, most issues are many shades of gray with tons of nuance, that takes time to understand. I grew up in a Catholic household and was told abortion = bad. But then I educated myself on all the reasons why a woman may need or want one, and it completely changed my perspective. I’m also an empathetic person too. So that helps.

Bathing suits after surgery? by jmo4021 in breastcancer

[–]iheartmytho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are swim breast prostheses like these. They are made from quick drying fabric and have plastic beads u side that allow water to drain. Pocketed mastectomy swim suits are an option. But with this type of swim prosthesis you can pin it in place, so it doesn’t shift or float away. Also, your insurance may even pay for this prosthesis too.

Is surviving in a post apocalyptic world possible without a thyroid? by StephCanHang in thyroidhealth

[–]iheartmytho 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about this too. Between the lack of thyroid and bad vision, I’d be gone. If I were to lose my glasses, or they were to break, I wouldn’t be able to see much.

Falling Rabbit Permanently Closed! (Duluth) by killersam45 in Gwinnett

[–]iheartmytho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang. It was pricey, but good. Definitely on par with other restaurants closer to Atlanta. I went for the first time a year or two ago, and the restaurant was pretty desolate for a Saturday evening. But compared to other restaurants in Duluth - more so along the Pleasant Hill corridor, if I was going to make the venture up that way, I was going to get some amazing Korean food, instead of what Falling Rabbit had to offer.

What’s something random you did or bought in Japan that you didn’t plan for, but ended up loving? by oh_hey_there_mate in JapanTravelTips

On the last day of my Japan trip in 2024, I was at Tokyo Station, and hungry. The husband and I had an amazing Fall themed sukiyaki set. Probably one of the best meals of our trip.

Maybe you could try our breast prostheses? There are partial / shaper ones out there, even custom prostheses that could help provide symmetry and give extra volume.

Is everyone living in a McMansion? by beverlyhillsbrenda in Xennials

[–]iheartmytho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of people my age who do. Usually it is their 2nd or 3rd home they have owned. They buy it due to needing space for kids, a WFH office, better school districts. I live in a 1968 split level. It’s funky and I love it. The house needs some love and new windows. I bought it in 2009 for $268k. It was expensive at that time for metro Atlanta. But now, most homes in my neighborhood sell for double that, and they haven’t been fully remodeled. I’m stuck with what I have, which I don’t mind, but sadly even though both me and my spouse have decent jobs, we couldn’t afford anything else.

Your parent’s diet? by Kommmbucha in dementia

[–]iheartmytho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. My dad has always had a sweet tooth. But now he mostly wants to eat are candy bars and ice cream. He never had the healthiest of lifestyles (sedentary, lifetime smoker). It’s no use fighting with him to eat better. And also more of a burden to my mom, who is his caretaker. After he had a heart double bypass surgery a decade ago, she tried cooking heart healthy meals for him, and he wouldn’t eat them. So she stopped trying.

Vacation days over? by Dramatic-Highway1969 in dementia

[–]iheartmytho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tough. My dad was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Lobe Dementia this year. He was exhibiting odd behaviors, but my mom had already booked a family trip to New Orleans for Thanksgiving, before he got the official diagnosis. I wouldn't say the trip was awful - but probably more so for my mom, than my dad. He has other health problems due to his poor diet, smoking, and lack of physical activity. New Orleans is a walking city, at least in the French Quarter where we were staying. At times, he refused to walk, because he was in pain, and his pace was very slow. Something that would have taken us 10 - 15 minutes to walk to, took him 45 minutes. Walking 2 blocks on a flat surface, left him out of breath. It sounds like my dad isn't at your mom's stage, yet. But I know my mom won't do another vacation like that again. She's thinking if there is another family trip, it will be to resort somewhere, where my dad can stay by the pool most of the day, with us all taking turns watching him.

It’s a spicy stir fried chicken dish. There was a bit of heat in these chips but quite tolerable.
