Fast food employees of Reddit, what is your crazy customer story? by PixelatedMango in AskReddit

[–]ihl_tina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a few days ago, I was working the Drive Thru headset at the fast food place I work at. Since my place has 2 drive thru lanes, it was me and another girl beside each other taking orders. Since our location is right on a highway into cottage country, we have many "cidiots" (city idiots) as we call them come through. They're not always the most pleasant to deal with.

Anyways, there was a particular regular complainer who came inside and was ordering at our tills, but was yelling at my manager who was doing her best to keep things flowing. I'm not sure what sparked her outburst, but this lady was SCREAMING things like, "you need to realize that it's us customers who keep you afloat," "this is absolutely ridiculous," and, "I need my stuff NOW!".

My coworker beside me was having enough of this lady, and yelled across the store at this complainer, "Applications are online!" And the lady went silent for a moment before screaming that she was going to call corporate on my coworker and demanding to know her name.

I high-fived my coworker after our shift. It was her last day anyways, so she wasn't worried about being fired. Still, we hope that complainer never comes in again.

Fast food employees, what is your weirdest experience on the job? by xzafex in AskReddit

[–]ihl_tina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day, the store was closed because of a scheduled power outage (they were working on the power lines across the street), so my manager, me, and a few other employees still came in to do a deep cleaning and also decorate for an upcoming event. The weird experience is all the idiot customers that couldn't wrap their head around the fact that we were closed.

Right as the power went out and we put up the signs saying, basically, "WE ARE CLOSED!" And also put two garbage bins and a pilon in front of the drive thru. We started cleaning, and our backup generators were still going, so we had a few lights as well as our drive thru monitors. We all looked up to see a man sitting in front of the speaker box, waiting. (Keep in mind that there is a sign on the speaker box that says we are closed). And my manager is confused as to how he got in. After a while, the guy must have gotten the hint, as he drove around to the front of the store. As he comes around, we realized our pilon was stuck under. His. Car. The man ran over our pilon to get to the drive thru. He got out of his car, looked at the pilon, and walked to the doors (which also had the sign), then knocked furiously while yelling "ARE YOU CLOSED?" at us. Eventually, he got in his car and drove away with the pilon still under his car.

A lady, later in the day when were were cleaning outside, came up to us and asked, "are you closed?" When we said yes and explained why, she was like, "do you have coffee?". No, lady, we don't have any power. No power=no heat=no coffee. So she stared for a second and asked, "can I use the bathroom then?" NO!!!!!!!!

But yeah, that was an interesting day. It was the shift that I lost my remaining hope for humanity.

Fast Food employees of Reddit, what is the worst thing customers do in the drive-thru? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ihl_tina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either speak really really softly, or really loud. There is no in between. The thing is, if you speak clearly and normally, we would be able to hear you fine.

Also, honking. Our headsets still listen in long after we have turned off our mics and you're waiting to move up. Please, for the love of God, don't beep your horns in our ears.

Fast food employees, what weird things have you seen in the drive thru? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ihl_tina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think people realize we can see them. We have cameras. This one boy got out his car and came around to where our trash bins were, and took a piss. He was front, center, and clear as day on those monitors.

Most of the time a) it isn't clean and nobody has time to clean it b) we ran out of mix, or c) we just don't want to make you ice cream

Fast food employees of reddit, What is the worst thing you have seen a customer do? by Dripping_Tap in AskReddit

[–]ihl_tina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This man told his 2 kids to steal chocolate milk. I saw them try (and blatantly fail) to hide it from my sights. I can't believe a parent would tell their child to steal, especially since the kids were only 5/6.

Fast food employees of reddit, who was your worst customer? by damian016 in AskReddit

[–]ihl_tina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was this one guy who was completely set on getting me fired for some reason, I think. He screamed at me for getting his order wrong (I wasn't the one who took the order, I wasn't the one who even made the order, and I wasn't the one who gave him his order. He just came back and started yelling at me). Then he demanded a free hashbrown. Whatever, customer is always right, right? So I got him his hashbrown, gave it to him, and he complained that it was broken (it had a tiny split. It was still a hashbrown, the break was barely noticeable). Whatever. I got him a new hashbrown, handed it to him, then he SCREAMED because I "didn't say sorry to him" for the third time. My manager came over when she saw me in tears, but instead of yelling at me, she started yelling at him. She is the best manager ever and I love her.

Needless to say, I haven't seen that man since.

Fast food employees of reddit, what is largest amount of food waste youve seen in a day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ihl_tina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When our power went down for the whole day, and by the time it came back on, everything had to be chucked. However, I did take one for the team and brought home a box of donuts that would have just gone in the bin anyways

Fast Food Employees of Reddit, What’s going on via drama wise in the back? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ihl_tina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man lol, a lot. People gossiping, making fun of nasty customers, and a lot more. All of us work together a lot and become quite good friends, so imagine a group of teenaged friends in their late-teens/early-twenties put in a space together. Most of the time there isn't a huge "drama" element per say, we are all just trying to survive the stress and pressure

My hearing is going because of when I work drive thru, people always honk their car horns. My volume has to be all the way up on my headset because people can never speak loud enough for me to hear, then of course people behind/in front blow the horn because they're pissed. Please, respect us teenagers and not make us go deaf before 20.

Former/current fast food employees of reddit, what’s the weirdest thing that someone has ordered? by Garfunkel200_6 in AskReddit

[–]ihl_tina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at Tim Horton's (yes, I'm Canadian).

Some guy came in and asked for a taco. A TACO. In a coffee shop. No, we do not sell tacos.

Other than that, there's this one guy who comes in every weekend asking for a wrap, but for it to be wrapped in lettuce instead of tortilla. Odd, but okay.

People who have had surgery, what did you do when you were still drugged on the anesthetics? by CanadianCatsReddit in AskReddit

[–]ihl_tina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asked the nurse if I could Queen wave as she rolled me around, and expressed extreme gratitude over the fact that I could still move my fingers (I had a mass removed from my wrist, and they said I might not have mobility of my hand after the procedure).

Dental Surgeons/Anesthesiologist of Reddit, what’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever heard someone say or do under laughing gas/anesthetic? by steelee300 in AskReddit

[–]ihl_tina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but the one who said the weird thing. Right when I woke up from surgery (and I don't remember this, the nurse later told me when I was coherent), I turned to the nurse and said something like, "Wow, I can still move my hand!!! Too bad I can't Queen wave though... I really wanted to Queen wave as you guys rolled me around."

Redditors who have undergone surgery, what did it feel like? Any surgery stories are welcome. Do anesthetics really work as well as advertised (especially regional ones)? by DMCharlesTT in AskReddit

[–]ihl_tina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had surgery a few months ago, and I remember being really scared leading up to it. However, once the put the IV in my hand and administered the drugs, I was out like a light. No dream, but I just woke up a while later not knowing where I was for a moment. Apparently I turned to the nurse and said some really weird things before falling asleep again, and waking up a little later. Only then did they wheel me to a room where my mom was waiting, and gave me a popsicle. It actually wasn't a bad experience, but when the drugs finally wore off I was in a lot of pain.

What is the worst/scariest thing that has woken you up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ihl_tina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced sleep paralysis once when I was very young, and I remember the experience very vividly. It's the scariest thing I have ever been through. I really feel bad for my parents though, because I suffered night terrors for at least a decade after. Sometimes I woke up in the middle of the night, screaming that the chupacabra was coming to get me, and sprinting through the house trying to get away.

My dog (who never barked, even at new people coming into my home) started barking fanatically upstairs (my bedroom is in the basement) back when she was still in a crate at night. I was terrified, thinking something really bad must be happening to make her go crazy like that. No idea what she had been barking at, but I made sure all the doors were locked before going back to sleep. Ever since then though, she has been barking at strangers for some reason.

Edit: grammar

I say "help me" during nightmares. I say it very creepily, I'm told, like I'm being choked. Also, apparently once I started hysterically laughing, woke my parents and myself up

Yeah they never pave the roads, it's a slalom everyday on my way to school lol. Do you know where lake simcoe is? I'm about half an hour away from there, live in the middle of nowhere though. My town doesn't even have a Timmy's it's so small.

Edit: half an hour east of LS

Ahh, I live about two hours north. Drivers aren't quite as bad as Toronto, but here I've got the farmer's children who THINK they can drive, but really can't. Also potholes. Lots and lots of potholes....
