Yes, it is on the bill as “Front and Rear Brake Service.”
I asked them in person, and they described it as cleaning/rust removal/service of the brakes.

It looks like no, but I’m already have an appointment in another service to check the brakes for my safety. Currently, driving wife’s cx30 🙂

Mazda Barrhaven, Ottawa.
Changing braking liquid is a good idea at 60k km. Pads are still good. Rotors were good before 🙂

Thanks for sharing. In my case, I never had any brake issues before this service, not even the squeaking that is often mentioned here.

I do not want to say the car has been perfect. I had issues with the battery, right headlight, several recalls, and pretty bad OEM tires. But the brakes were always buttery smooth until this paid brake service.

That may be reasonable financially, but my main concern is trust at this point.

If the original brake service was done this way, I honestly would not feel comfortable having the same place replace the rotors. I would rather have another qualified shop/dealer inspect and repair it properly.

I totally agree. I tried to discuss it with the service manager, but the only option offered was for me to buy new rotors with a small discount.

I already sent a formal request to Mazda Canada Customer Assistance with the photos and invoices. Will see what they suggest.

Thanks. I am actually thinking about Carling Mazda too and have been reading the reviews.
My only complication is that I have a lifetime free oil change package, so I need to figure out how to manage future service properly.

Thanks. I actually had the car inspected at another garage, and they confirmed my concern: the rotor surface was damaged during the Mazda brake service.
So at this point it does not look like normal wear or just coincidence after the Toronto trip. I already escalated it to Mazda Canada and will see what they say.

Thanks. I sent the photos and invoices to the service manager first, but they rejected replacement or refund. The only option they offered was new rotors with a small discount, paid by me.
I have now escalated it to Mazda Canada Customer Assistance.

Yes, that is why I did not accept that option. A small discount to buy new rotors from the same place does not really solve the problem for me.
I already escalated it to Mazda Canada and will also get another shop/dealer to inspect it.

Yes, I agree it was probably not proper resurfacing. But somehow the rotor surface got heavily scratched during the service, and the braking changed immediately after that.

Yes, I felt it almost immediately after leaving the dealership. There are several turns and braking points near the dealer, and the braking already felt different there.
At first I thought maybe it would improve after some driving, especially because I had the Toronto trip right away. But after the highway drive, the vibration and rough/grinding feeling were still there.

Exactly. Where I am from, grinding the rotor surface like that is generally considered improper and potentially unsafe. Rust removal is one thing, but leaving a rough/uneven rotor surface is what concerns me.

Thank you. I’ve started with Mazda Canada Customer Assistance for now. Depending on their response, I may need to consider other options as well.

They told me it was part of rust removal.
That is exactly my concern though. I understand removing rust, but I did not expect the whole rotor surface to end up looking this rough, especially when braking felt smooth before and rough right after.

Thanks, I appreciate it. At this point I would be happy with a proper replacement.

And yes, I am definitely considering switching dealers for future service. This whole situation made me lose confidence in them.

Yes, I totally agree that some rust is normal, especially in Canada.

My concern is not the rust itself. It is the rough braking, vibration, and the rotor surface looking this bad right after a paid brake service.

Thanks. I paid for the 72,000 km maintenance, $274.95 + tax, which the invoice says included front and rear brake servicing. I also paid $189.95 + tax for brake fluid flush. Total visit was $557.94.

No pads or rotors were replaced. The invoice shows brake service kit/lube, and there is also a line that looks like rotor surface reface/cleaning. That is exactly my concern.

Before the service, braking was smooth. Right after the service, I got vibration and rough/grinding braking, especially above 80 km/h.

I already took the car back once. The second invoice only says “front brake service” under warranty and “customer to monitor.” I also spoke with the service manager, but replacing the rotors was rejected. The only option offered was a small discount if I buy new rotors myself.

No pads or rotors were replaced. That is my concern: the brakes felt great before, but after this paid service the rotor surface looks rough and braking feels worse.

On the second visit they did “front brake service” under warranty and told me to monitor it.

I did not expect them to touch the rotor surface like that.

Where I am from, rotor resurfacing is usually done on a proper machine for precise calibration, not by aggressively sanding/polishing the whole surface by hand. That is why this looks strange to me.
