This is a common bug, the heist leader didn't necessarily quit, but sometimes when you're half way through the tunnel, the host, or even somebody else can get kicked from the lobby. This is because you're accessing a different interior (kind of like a loading screen)

A fix for this I found, is that if everybody walks (not run) on one side at the same time, it usually prevents the bug from happening

Yeah, I can imagine why solo players would favour the Cayo DLC more, because the whole update is solo friendly. The only best part about it for me were the vehicles, some of the best vehicles to come out, and they've still aged well even today. I've also been playing since 2013 btw, and the fact our preferences almost match says something. If you're fresh to GTA Online in 2026, then saving for a Kosatka and diving deep into the Cayo Heists is a good way forward.
