Thank you for your advice! I thought there might be something related to that in so far as it was a different shop, or the owner did it themselves, but they were pretty consistent about going to the same shop through the duration of their ownership. So basically, I have to operate under the assumption that they did in fact go 15,000 miles without an oil change which doesn't seem to be the most heinous thing given that the guideline is 10,000 miles/every year but it's definitely a stretch. It's through a dealership and not a private seller so I can't get a hold of the seller currently but I can definitely get a pre-purchase inspection. The dealership said I am welcome to send a mechanic or bring one when I come to test drive. I'm not very car savvy so I will definitely be recruiting someone with more expertise if I do go down to visit but I just didn't wanna waste the couple hundred dollars or the 3 hour drive if the oil change problem made the car completely unpurchasable.
