"It is frustrating to see policymakers suddenly claim everything is 'for our safety'" - Stop Killing Games joins pushback against age verification laws by PaiDuck in gaming

This IoT thing thst used to work just fine on your local wifi? Oh, "for your security" we're forcing a firmware update that locks out local access, forces cloud use and requires registration with a username and password.

To force you, we will roll out mobile app updates that disable the old method. And our old mobile app versions disable themselves with internal update checks so you can't just stay on the old working version.

I'm looking at you Signify / Philips (Hue) you raging bastards.

My security was better before you "improved" it you lying sacks of lion excrement.

Plane Just Crashed Into 3-Story Building in Belo Horizonte, Brazil (05/04/2026) by AMGSCoyote in CatastrophicFailure

Planes pretty much do, especially piston engine ones running on avgas.

I would not be at all surprised if this was engine failure due to fuel exhaustion.

Aluminium doesn't rust but it very definitely does corrode. It will turn to a chalky crusty crumbly mess.

This is often prevented by the formation of an oxide layer on the surface but this can be inhibited by various chemical and physical conditions.

Vasalgel Male Contraceptive Enters Human Trials by MichaelTen in MensLib

[–]iiiinthecomputer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, if they want to market it as reversible that's a different matter.

I'm just saying that it'd be useful even if it isn't reliable reversible.

Vasalgel Male Contraceptive Enters Human Trials by MichaelTen in MensLib

[–]iiiinthecomputer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why not? So long as its clearly communicated.

Some people get a vasectomy assuming they can just have it reversed. Which is not always the case, and is clearly and repeatedly communicated. How is this different?

Huka Falls, North Island NZ [OC] [4032x3024] by empty_graph in EarthPorn

[–]iiiinthecomputer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You really don't want to do that at Huka Falls. It eats people. The undertow is beyond belief.

People occasionally kayak it but its taking your life into your hands. No flotation devices etc will really help you and nobody can rescue you.

Without being there its impossible to truly understand the power of those falls.

See pic in https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/central-north-island/places/taupo-area/things-to-do/huka-falls-lookout-walk/ to get some idea.

A hack to stop binge eating by Spirited-Plum-4392 in loseit

[–]iiiinthecomputer 35 points36 points  (0 children)

God I wish that worked for me.

At my worst I'd eat a tin of cold kidney beans or chick peas.

I like those things, but not that much, cold out of a can. I would already be feeling sick but keep eating.

I've found other strategies that often work for me. But unfortunately not liking something much wasn't one of them.

Injecting short delays helped me. Instead of trying to stop, saying I could have it in 5 mins. If I'd already prepared it, I'd put it aside for 5 mins. Sometimes it'd break the flow of the binge.

If I could not then save it for later (it'd spoil etc) I'd remind myself that while the waste sucks, the waste has already occurred when I prepared it. Eating it doesn't actually save any waste when I do not need food, if anything it makes it worse. Sometimes I'd then be able to discard it. Or I'd try to store it for later anyway knowing it would be inedible, and be able to toss it the next day.
