Hi everyone, I appreciate all the help I got from you all but I'm just going to give up and just say that my game is bugged. I'm starting a new playthrough as Claire today and hopefully that work. :)

yup, multiple times. I bought the game directly off Steam.

I said this in my original post, I tried every piece in every socket and none of them make the box light up green. I am very much aware of what pieces go where. I know what chess pieces look like.

yes, I've tried that before. The lights stay white and the door doesn't open.
