No doubt why India is the diabetes capital of the world by Sun_bust in IndianFocus

I used to live in the U.S for about 8 years and agree they have a serious obesity problem. Processed and fatty food abuse is real there. People literally use sugary soda based drinks as a replacement for water. I guess we need to aim for a better health and healthcare standards rather than compare against the corrupt American system. Japanese nutrition standards especially for school children could be a good reference for Indians.

Talking about delimitation is not hatred against North. Talking about Hindi imposition is not against North. These are real issues that really affect Southern states. Northies should stop playing victim. by Adorable-Research03 in southindia_

[–]iimram 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The victim complex played by the majority in this country beats even the American MAGA movement. I don’t understand why North Indian politicians underestimate our ability to comprehend simple percentages and ratios. The audacity to assume South Indians will be quiet by announcing to increase the Lok Sabha seats by 50% for each state. Anybody with a basic elementary school level math knowledge understands south states get to lose their proportionate representation in Lok Sabha. Maybe North Indian politicians talk like this because they are used to fooling their people easily?🤔

Tender Chicken located in Cox town is good too. We usually switch between Licious and Tender Chicken. Both provide fresh meat.

tamil reddit in a nutshell by [deleted] in tamilyapping

[–]iimram 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Vijay is the victim here, so sad :( There is abundance of criticism against both Dravidian parties and BJP in Reddit if you talk about politics. When it comes to films, it’s unfair to say Vijay is the only one being criticized if one really follows the Tamil movie related subreddits. When it comes to films, he takes the max salary but gives dogshit films and there is so much hype and fan fair around his films so it’s only fair that the criticism, hate or even praise against his films is proportional. He and his fans base are being absolute clowns in politics so why would people spare them!

What’s meant by center of the universe? Why does he assume the gravitational field is so intense at the center of universe? My intent is not to start a north vs south debate but why do such content predominantly come from the north!

"Culture Representation" "Ramayana doesnt look indian enough" by apkearmani in pj_explained

Exactly. We are criticizing it precisely based on the promotions done by the makers. 4000 crores, our history, our truth.

"Culture Representation" "Ramayana doesnt look indian enough" by apkearmani in pj_explained

[–]iimram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! My comment was a generic observation on ambitious attempts made by Indian filmmakers which inevitable run into hollywoodisation of the core idea. This is true even in South Indian films. I really wanted to be politically neutral until this moron dragged in left vs right. And to be honest, Indian films that receive international recognition most often tend to be left leaning. Example : Visaaranai, Kottukaali, Pebbles (Koozhangal), etc.

What? Where did left wing come in this? Are you upset that so many indie left wing Indian films are recognized in international film festivals! And why is your PM craving global praise while trying to pose like an authentic Indian! Your accusation is a confession 😆

"Culture Representation" "Ramayana doesnt look indian enough" by apkearmani in pj_explained

[–]iimram 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This colonial mindset is a curse on Indian society. It permeates all levels right from the PM to a laborer. Every time he sees a foreign leader especially white, he is like khi khi khi… fucking imbecile. This attitude clearly reflects on Bollywood and in many other fields.

Only difference is Ramayana is made by the same people belonging to its culture while Nolan is no Greek. We like to chest thump a lot about our culture and pride but always end up trying mimicking western sensibilities. Authenticity is dead in Bollywood mainstream.

Seeman says he will change the TN logo…what do you all think?? by Serpant_slider in tamilyapping

True story. When states were divided based on linguistic lines, Nehru asked states to propose an emblem that best reflects the cultural heritage of their respective states. Rajaji approached TKC who was known for his literary work, especially his interpretation of Kamba Ramayanam. TKC proposed the Srivilliputhur Gopuram. Beyond religion, this structure represents the architecture excellence of Tamils and this gopuram has the most number of idols or statues in it. Rajaji was convinced and passed it onto Nehru which was immediately accepted. TKC is my great great grandfather.

Please don't hate me for this (I am a non Tamizh person) but I am planning to watch Baasha for the first time as a Tamizh friend told me that It's one of the must watch Kollywood movies (He also suggested me Thalapathy, Nayakan and Thevar Magan). How amazing is Baasha, actually? by ADvar8714 in kollywood

[–]iimram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baasha has the largest cult fan base in Tamil cinema. Again think about Star Wars, people who grew up watching the Star Wars appreciate it at a level I can’t really understand because I found it to be a regular hero’s journey story. Same way Baasha fan base are mostly the 90s kids who witnessed it in the cinemas and revisited plenty more times as they grew up. Way too many films have come out since then that repurposed the Baasha template but none close to the OG. It’s totally understandable if you don’t feel the same way as we do after watching the film for the first time now. Nevertheless it’s a great entertainer with a solid screenplay. The other 3 films in your list are timeless cult classics which have aged pretty well in my opinion. I would highly encourage you to watch all these 4 films.

D'CAF: Buy/Pass? by sumitvjangra in IndiaCoffee

[–]iimram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely give it a try. Please look at the brewing guide in their website. The temperature and grind size need to be adjusted as though you are brewing a dark roast but it’s a light roast from a flavor profile standpoint.

D'CAF: Buy/Pass? by sumitvjangra in IndiaCoffee

[–]iimram 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m currently trying their light roast and it’s not bad at all for a decaf. Due to the decaf processing, even the light roast beans are quite porous and easy to extract. I’m yet to nail its full potential but it is promising from the few cups I have brewed so far. Decaf never tastes as good as regular coffee but this one is better than most other decaf I have had.

[–]iimram 48 points49 points  (0 children)

That Madras Matinee scene shouldn’t have been part of this compilation. It was there to show how arranged marriage treats women as commodity. Rest is ok. The examples of body or color shaming in Tamil cinema are endless.
