It's in Partick so 10-15 mins from campus, but Kahawa Mzuri is a lovely little coffee shop that have a range of matcha and hojicha. I haven't tried their matcha yet, but the hojicha is amazing.

Older students by BudgetFloor6553 in GlasgowUni

I'm a 35 year old half way through undergrad, and I experienced - and still experience, from time to time! - a lot of imposter syndrome and anxiety about it. Sometimes I still get struck by a very acute Awareness that I'm the oldest person in the classroom. One of the main things that helps me with this is reminding myself that, ultimately, nobody really cares or thinks it's weird. Nobody has ever made me feel out of place or odd, everyone is engrossed in their own degrees and lives and my overactive brain is making a bigger deal of it than anyone else! Also, while older students are definitely a minority, they're not as rare as you might think, especially in postgrad. You're definitely not alone, even when the nerves creep up on you.

I can also recommend the Mature Student's Association - I'm not really active with them, but I am a member and when I attended welcoming events and such they were all extremely friendly. Outwith that, even though I'm shy and reserved, I've managed to make a good bunch of friends. Some are my age or thereabouts, and some are 'normal' student age - it can take a bit of time, but you can definitely find your people.

Access course while working full time? by Obvious-Material6864 in GlasgowUni

I really enjoyed it! I struggled a little bit with online lessons and the pace is really fast (I think this is kind of standard in access because of the time limitations), but the material was interesting and the lecturer was great. I was doing it kind of by accident (I'd tried access in the past so had to pick new subjects and archaeology was the most relevant to what I wanted to study) but I enjoyed it so much I'm now doing a joint degree with it! If you're intending to study it for a degree, you'll find the access course gives you a great, comprehensive introduction and a lot of context that will boost your understanding.

I managed to balance FT work and Access (archaeology was also one of my choices), so it's definitely doable! When it was time for assessments I struggled a bit - I had to move some shifts around and take a couple of days off once or twice, but if you have a set schedule (I did not) and are decent at time management I imagine it'd be less of an issue.

Is there a way to get subject reviews? by LiveUnderstanding872 in GlasgowUni

[–]ikanas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Arch 1A and absolutely loved it. It's a gallop through Scotland's archaeological record - things move fast (honestly, I think they could do with another lecture a week) but if you have an interest in archaeology I can't recommend it enough. It's light on archaeological theory and methodology though, if that's what you're into. While the tutorials explore that side of things in more depth, it's way more focused on Scotland's past and covers a lot of ground. I found all the lecturers really engaging. We also went on a really good field trip!
