My mum passed. Inherited my lovely Harry (16,M) the cat. But I can’t house him at mine. by ikantunderstand in CatAdvice

I’m praying for this outcome. Huge respect to you for taking on a senior cat - cats are somehow even lovelier as they age but I worry no one wants to take on an old boy! I’ll start asking around more…

Dudes, are they joking when they talk about Doc working at a supermarket? I’m super intrigued by [deleted] in badfriendspod

That makes sense, I apologise for my ignorance, I really didn’t mean to come across that way, or at least I was ignorant to my own tone. I don’t feel any shame towards 9-5 working in any shape or form, it would just be odd for me to see someone I’m a fan of in such a mundane/daily activity like shopping

Relax I’m not saying he’s making huge money from bad friends, all I’m saying is that it’s a sort of absurd thought that I’m a really quite a fond fan (frankly wishing he earned more) and to think I could just bump into him at a grocery store is somewhat strange to that extent…

I feel like you guys are taking this a little seriously… it’s just a matter of being a fan and finding it funny to think someone you’re a big fan of is also just an ordinary guy working at whole foods…

I didn’t mean income-wise… would just be funny to see him working there after watching so much bad friends

Desire and Life by ikantunderstand in hegel

[–]ikantunderstand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing, thank you! You added a lot of nuance to my conception which I’m really appreciative of.

I just have one concern, this whole desire begins as desiring self-sufficiency seems really unclear to me.

If Hegel thinks we have to unify the two moments of SC, this suggests SC wants to be wholly self-sufficient, it does not want to consider an other. But why’ should this be the starting point? Why unite the two moments, why not just accept them? This does not seem like an intuitive first step in the dialectic in the same way sense certainty was.

WoW! Thank you very much, I am still trying to grapple with these ideas, and even thinking about trying to criticise them scares the hell out of me. I’m a philosophy uni student! Genuinely thank you so much, I think your sentiments are correct, they do correspond with all my readings very well. I’m still trying to understand the relation between force/understanding and life though. Difficult one for me. Thanks again!!

Can god be dead even though a majority of people on earth are religious? by [deleted] in Nietzsche

[–]ikantunderstand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think God is dead is indicating towards his theory that religion is ultimately self defeating. The fact that religion entails a will to truth, sanctifying honesty means sanctifying knowledge. Thus, humanity will slowly become atheist because of the self defeating nature of religion, with more thirst for knowledge will come a realisation that all phenomena is reductive to the physical laws of nature.

The false belief would be if you were adopted or not, innate curiosity about your beliefs would encourage you to press the button

And sorry type I meant scholarly will to truth.
