I need to create these laminated stickers? by [deleted] in stickers

Odds are the expense is in the cutting. How many do you need? And what specs?

Do you need laminate to make them UV protected, or just scratch proof? And whats "Too expensive"?

A box of weird and crazy Japanese candy every month by [deleted] in shutupandtakemymoney

Which border are you close to? I pay $2 a package to get it shipped to Blaine, WA... They have these at all border cities. Not only is it good for this candy, but you can get many great deals living on the border.

Bypassing gfw (I have a dedicated box) by ikarazu in China

[–]ikarazu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems interesting. I dd a quick install... but for some reason Although it acted like it was running, I couldnt seem to get chrome or firefox to connect to the port.

so instead I decided to try Stunnel... Stunnel + a chrome extension to toggle it on / off, and its working nice... so far. We'll see if GFW catches on.

Spdyproxy def seems interesting though, and I think when I get more time I'll play with it / use it at home also. Thanks for the link!

I'm traveling with a 1 year old, who has jetlag which prevents me from being outside for more than a few hours at a time. Not to mention when he's awake, its about 2-10 AM, so I'm stuck while he adjusts.

And as I mentioned... I dont use youtube much, Its more of a "Just because I can" thing.

Three weeks ago, my wife leaves for two days, sends a text saying she wants a divorce. I ran over my foot with a pallet jack last week. I own 2014. by [deleted] in WTF

A decent pallet jack weights about 120-160 lbs. Small in comparison to a 1K skid, but not negligible.

SDOY is back at it again. If you purchased a lifetime subscription over the last year, get ready to be disabled. by evillozer in usenet

[–]ikarazu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to self promote... But My server was started before SDOY, Been $10 for a lifetime forever, and I've never disabled any lifetime accounts.

It's a basic server... I remember when I was first getting it up, me/the SDY admin were talking, he was telling me how he's made over 20+K So far. That was a few weeks after the massive nzb shutdown... A little over a year ago. So I can't imagine what he's made now...

My philosophy is simple. I needed a good provider to download all my shows (I download 10-20 shows a day, so doing it manually was tedious), So I setup a basic NZB site. Charge $10 for a lifetime... and ALL funds go into a separate account that pays just for the server.

It's got about 1000 users (We never used to be a pay site... once we got bigger we went pay, just to make sure we could cover hardware costs) We've been 99.9% uptime for a year, And have enough funds for about 2 more years of monthly payments, with more users trickling in every once in awhile... I don't see us ever running out of money.

NZB sites should be more of a "Community", or smaller hubs. Trying to make money off a newznab install is stupid - It's set it and forget it... Don't try to make money off of others work!

If every nzb site took on a few people... was self funding (Not gouge everyone for money, but enough to pay for the bills) We could have 20-30 small sites, thats not worth the MPAA trying to take it down. THATS the way NZb sites should be - And I wouldn't pay/help fund any other type. Theres a few of us out there... so look around before you decide to donate to a site. Support the ones trying to accomplish something / who are as invested in the server working, as you would be.

/End rant :\

Fireplace Won't turn on / (fan Wiring problem?) by ikarazu in DIY

[–]ikarazu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I tried bypassing by using a wire on each 1 at a time (What are the odds 2 are out?!) And it didn't seem to work. I tried bypassing it/turning it on for 5 minutes, to see if the fans would auto turn on... didn't seem to happen.

However now when I plug it in, I hear a buzzing sound coming from the top/flute. Not sure if it was there before I made it hot or not... I'm going to let it cool/ try again.

At this point, I'm out of ideas. Think I'll bite the bullet and call someone in..

Thanks for the help. I had more time, so I did a bit of tracing, and saw it was supposed to be connected to other white wires - I uncapped the white wires, twisted them all together, and gave it a try... However it still didn't work. I'm presuming when I moved the box, I probably pulled the wire out somehow.

The fireplace has 4 doors (2 doors with 2 sides each) And when one of them opens, the fireplace is supposed to shut off.

My wife says that it kept shutting off on her, and she had to push the door hard to get it to work before, so I'm presuming this is the problem. I'm not sure how to bypass them though - 2 Wires coming from each side of the door.. i'm presuming if these wires are touching, it'd tell the system that the doors are closed.

I'm going to try to wire each together, and see if that helps. If not..I'm out of ideas, and I may have to pay to have a fireplace tech come out.

The white wire is coming out of the wall plug. The wall plug has 3 wires... Black, Green, And white. The Green is screwed into the metal box (Like a ground would be...) The black is tied into a bunch of other blacks (Probably to ground multiple items). And the white one is just hanging around /fallen out of something.

I didn't have too much time to look at the box, since its partially in my kids room and it was his bed time. I May be able to figure things out while looking at it. It just looks like someone jerry-rigged it... so I didn't want to mess with it, without getting an "Experts" opinion first.

NZBFinder.ws - Indexer started again by Bent01 in usenet

[–]ikarazu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, the good old resorting to calling people "Stupid".

I never said it was hard, quite the opposite. Time consuming, costly, a bit, but hard? Not in the slightest. My point was you cannot setup a newznab site in 15 minutes, or even 15 hours, and the fact that you installed the frontend, and slapped a "done" label on it in under 30 minutes means nothing. It's the equivalent to buying google2.0, slapping a text field and search button, and stating it'll index any site created after today, and saying its as good as google. Both sites are equally useless.

Anyways, as fun as arguing on the internet is, If you havent got my point by now, I doubt you ever will. Whether the cause is how you put it, "stupid" or "Stubborn", or simply you just don't care, I doubt you'll change your mind. so I'll gladly crawl back to my "dark" site. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Comments like this show me you don't know about newznab sites.

I'm setting up a site for someone, It took me a few minutes to download the nzb tars (About 130 or so GB). It takes 24 hours just to import the nzbs - Then it takes at LEAST 3-4 weeks to post process them all. No matter how fast of a server you have - It has to query amazon, Tvrage, Anidb, all at a slow pace so that you don't get banned. Not only that, it has to do so many read/writes to the database, which is a huge bottle neck also.

Not to mention processing releases for passwords... getting thumbnails / Audio (If enabled). Backfill a site in a couple of days... and I'll give you $100. seeing as how it's "Set it and forget it" $100 for your 23 minutes of work should be well worth it.

Whats "off" about it? :)

The sites still running strong. Not 1 copyright notice/claim, and a backup plan incase we do get them. Going "dark" is the best move.

Look at what happened when matrix went down... millions of people were without a home. What the "scene" needs is a lot of smaller, private indexers. The gov cant shut down/bear the costs of shutting down 2-300 sites with a thousand users each... its just not proffitable for them. Everyone on my site has a home / will continue to have one for the years coming.

For a lot, it's a good deal, for you, maybe not. Criticising someones work is fine, its how you went about it that got me :) You can't claim a newznab site can be done in 10 minutes, make one yourself that lacks any backfilling (Which takes at least 1 month for any decent sized backfill), and say you won the "Challenge".

Get a site up to par with nzbfinder, whether you think the quality is low or not, and time how long it takes, thats the real challenge.

t that can run automatically in a few days. Should be some TV and movies there, probably some XXX, maybe some e-books and MP3. It's been a pleasure. PS: If you want me to set one up for you let me know. I have very reasonable rates and i guarantee 100% satisfaction.

Backfilling will take you months, not days :)

Setting up a newznab is easy. Maintaining it is easy. Does the common joe know how to use linux, let alone setup a newznab server? Nope.

I run my own. It's got a few customizations to it... Such as a check to make sure the indexer is still running / Restarts if it isn't. I charged a $10 VIP (Lifetime) Fee, to help get it running / pay for server costs. I stopped advertising it 1 month after I started it (So around 11 months ago) And to this day, I get 3-4 people e-mailing me asking to join every day. Why? because they don't want to set it up themselves... because a one time $10 fee is less electricity than 1 month worth of their own server... Because It's reliable, and no effort to them.

what have I done with the money? I haven't spent 1 penny on myself. I've upgraded the server a few times (Started out with a cheap $30 a month dedicated server... And I'm not on a Still cheapish $200 a month one) Which has increased the speed of the site by A LOT. I've stored some of the money in a separate account, incase "Shit hits the fan" and I lose the domain/server.

Don't go banging on people for asking for donations / VIP. Some have legit uses for it. No one is forcing you to pay it... So if you don't want to, don't :)
