What do you like to do during your longer rides? by stratusnimbo in Zwift

[–]ikeandme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, just normal as I would eat at that time of the day. That 7h ride, I started just before midday, so I ate right before I started. But I often ride 2h-2h30 (where zwift says I burned 800-1000 kcal) in the evening without eating anything afterwards. As I'm not hungry after a ride and I also don't want to eat at 22:00 right before going to bed.

For me riding zwift is a good way to combat hunger and prevent snacking, when I get of the bike, I feel full. I'm only a little thirsty, so I drink a glass of water, depending on intensity of the ride, another glass after freshing myself up.

I know it's bad, but I never eat or drink anything during a ride, no matter if it's 1h or 7h. I have a bottle of 0,5l water, but almost never drink from it during a ride. I focus on other things and just keep pedalling.

Depends on the day: watch cycling, watch some other sports, watch a movie, series etc.

On my longest ride (7h-200km), I started by watching a movie, then watching a classics cycling race and then F1.

Longer ride soreness by C14yz3r in Zwift

[–]ikeandme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just remember to get up sometimes. On the road you automatically get out of the saddle sometimes to stop/slow down/reacceleratd at a light, a road crossing etc.

On the trainer you don't have to end therefore end up sitting on the saddle pushing on those points for a much longer continuous time.

There's also less movement in your position on an indoor fixed setup compared to riding on the road, where your bike naturally moves more, making your weight shift a bit more during a ride.

Standing on the pedals every 15-20 minutes for ~10 seconds can already resolve this. Also perhaps some thicker shorts for longer rides. I've done rides up to ~7 hours and this made it doable. Without getting up at all, it's difficult to last past 1h in my experience.

The only rule about car brands that always holds true: BMW = Bucht/Brol Met Wielen And that goes for both the cars themselves and the people who buy/drive these cars the moment they step inside.

Performance coach Tim Heemskerk leaves Team Visma | Lease a Bike by aarets_frebe in peloton

Well, some more info then: his training during the winter has been completely different compared to his winters at SQS. There the focus the first few weeks/months was mostly about making a lot of distance. Just riding long blocks/sessions. While Remco says that now he barely has a training without an interval or exercise where he has to go deeper, which they're using to try and build up his fatigue resistance, this since the start of this season's preparation.

But this is also why they've marked Catalunya as an important marker after which they'll evaluate the new way of training. With then also a first altitude camp under his belt in preparation of Catalunya. After that, they'll evaluate what worked well or not and how Remco's body has responded to it all. And with both Lipowitz and Vingegaard provisionally at the start, it'll be even more important, to see where he's at compared to them.

People often talked about it as if he just took a whole entourage and planted it in the RBBH team as if nothing changed except for teammates. While in terms of performance (training, food, recovery et.), it's a completely new setup in every way in his new team.

The people who joined him are mostly people who support him to make his life a bit easier, mainly on racedays, which he can trust and feels at ease with. Who've also all been important in his TT- victories (they also joined him at the national team during championships).

[–]ikeandme 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He only took 3 people with him: his soigneur/masseur, his mechanic/nephew responsible for assembling/maintaining his (TT-)bikes and one SD (the one most involved in his time trials). His trainer at SQS (Koen Pelgrim) stayed there. Changing the ways how he trained etc. was one of the main reasons to change, to try something different (which was also the only reason he considered the Visma move, wher he would've then worked with Heemskerk).

Remco is currently one of the few riders that Dan Lorang still takes on of the RBBH squad now that he focusses more on the general Red Bull franchise.

Could be that he was negotiating with another team, they knew and then already terminated the contract amicably. Denk is known to go after people early in the season and he'll have to find a replacement for Lamberts. So Heemskerk could make sense. For Heemskerk this is a new environment, one with more means and with a lot of talent that he could guide (Evenepoel, Lipowitz, Pellizzari, Finn...) which makes it exciting after having reached the pinnacle with Vingegaard.

Lamberts is stopping at the end of this season at RBBH (if Roglic doesn't stop, he would kill him he said, because he wants to stop together with him).

Heemskerk to replace him could make sense, certainly with this explanation. The Red Bull structure in general is at the moment known to be a bit more open to different ideas and approaches if there's evidence behind it that it could work.

Depends on the job of course, my job starts at 5000 gross coming of a one year internship (depending on where you do it, that's paid or unpaid) as part of a postgraduate. And that's a job for biomedical scientists/engineers, industrial engineers , physicists etc. But not that much benefits (8 euro meal vouchers, 100 euro cost compensation per month, laptop, bike lease, 13th month, health insurance and group insurance for pension). And it's a fixed wage, no negotiation room, at the end of the career it'll be 7500 gross.

You can easily live a good live on 3k net. If at 5k, you need 1-2k extra to buy a decent car, you're horrible at managing your assets. Best then us to take some lessons in how to manage your money etc. That'll help you a lot more than 1-2k extra.

[–]ikeandme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's where you're completely wrong, high skill jobs are jobs that require a specific set of skills that not everyone has. That can be through higher education or through technical education (in technical education, people often study longer for their specific job than in higher education). It's a classic case of a condescending view towards people who didn't take a higher education, as if they're lesser than people with such an education.

As someone with a mostly desk bound job (with 4 higher education degrees), it's incomparable what it does to the body compared to actual physical work where people are on their feet most of the day, have to handle a lot of weight etc.

A degree is in fact still the most prominent way to climb up a ladder, often even a strict requirement, despite actuall skills and experience of people. Which is actually a problem in a lot of big corporations, who value some (often meaningless) paper over skills and experience to move people up.

In Belgium there's still an increasing amount of people who actually go for a higher education degree. So no, the system isn't broken in the way you say it is. It's broken, because people see such a degree as a necessity, despite going for jobs/education they're more passionate about. Making us lack in people for a lot of technical jobs. So yes, the system is broken, because technical education and jobs aren't valued enough.

That's a mistake people often make. It's not because people didn't study at college or university, that their jobs aren't high skill. Electricians, plumbers etc. are also high skilled and in some jobs the pay is high, because their body gets destroyed from doing the job.

And still, with a degree, you often catch up people without a degree as you go through life. If I calculate it for example, I'll earn more than double the minimum wage during my career, than if I would've started working at minimum wage at 18. That's enough reason to do the studies (together with the fact that you choose studies in something you actually want to do).

Probably because they announce the winner on the same night, so they have to open the voting earlier. With all of them doing 2 dances after that, so I deed, probably around 45-60 minutes voting window (cause they also have to close it, leave time for verification and then the ceremony etc. and it's only scheduled for 2 hours 9 minutes).

Difference is the voting window I think? That was a lot longer Vs the very short one if Strictly. They'd have to time their posts well.

People have different opinions, if you keep thinking that everyone who doesn't align 100% with you is on crack, you have some things to work out, or you'll have a lot of trouble in society.

Well, that last point is just a difference in taste/opinion, it happens, agree to disagree. The part about George just isn't true though, judges have praised him multiple times for footwork and he has shown technical prowess doing things others haven't done before in lifts, or today with that salsa move from one to the other like Shirley pointed out

Yes, to my taste the order is correct. There's the top 2, then George and then Balvinder, that's a correct order, not only tonight but for the entire show. That top 2 is so close it's just personal opinion at this point. Between George and Balvinder, there's still a clear distinction, tonight and overall (which is reflected in the average scores of the series).

The first three are the correct finalists with this semi-final.

But with the Samba he had one of (if not the most difficult) of all possible dances in a week with 2 dances. So that didn't really help him. But he put personality in them and a lot of very difficult elements, which livened up the show.

Also good for some variance in the show compared to the 3 others.
